FAR Study: It’s Crunch Time

Matt is a weekly Club 75 Blogger as he documents his journey through the CPA Exam. He has been a member of Another71.com's Club 75 since April 2010.

I’m down to less than 2 weeks until my FAR exam, and I have to report that last week wasn’t as successful of a week as I would have liked it to be. For the better part of the week I was dealing with one of those nasty summer colds….it’s 90 degrees outside and you’re in a sweatshirt and drinking hot tea.

But I was able to get through my required lectures and was able to work some MCQ’s, although not as many as I would have liked.

I was able to justify getting some extra rest because I told myself I need to get better or else next week would be worse and that I’ve taken this section 5 previous times and right now I’m just more in a full review mode using the lectures as a supplemental to what I already know.

Roger CPA Review has a daily schedule available to their students on what needs to be done daily if you want to pass all 4 parts in 3 months, 6 months and 9 months. I have been following the 3 month schedule, because in this instance you get an entire month to prepare for FAR. I’ve been able to watch the necessary lectures and do the required MCQ’s that he has assigned.

This week I’m going to have to double up a couple of the days because of the lost progress from last week and the sheer fact that I don’t have the 30 days to prepare that he has laid out.

I find it much easier to watch the lectures and have had a hard time motivating myself to review my notes as I would rather work multiple choice questions. I would welcome any advice anyone has to power through this. The plan for the week is to finish FAR #5 & FAR #6, work as many MCQ’s as my time available will allow me and just continue to get into the mindset that I can and I will pass this exam.

A little extra motivation this week as well because I’ve been informed upon passing these two final exams, I have a promotion to manager waiting at Deloitte.

Until next time Study Hard!
