I dont know if is just me, but the CPA exam feels like is harder to obtain compare to Bachelors or Masters. I know a lot of people who have given up on this exam already. Mostly private accounting colleagues here in South Florida. For a minor few, the CPA exam is a joke (passed in 6 months),but for the majority, this exam is a pain.

I think a lot of people underestimate the exams, think they're similar to college exams, and freak out when they realize how driven you have to be to pass them. I truly believe anybody who can get the 150 credits is capable of the CPA exam as long as they realize it's not comparable to a typical college exam.

    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

I agree with you, I think most people go expecting to take a cumulative college exam and freak out when they don't pass. Other candidates who have graduated 10 years prior to taking the CPA exam also freak out when they fail, and they think they will never pass it since it has been so long since they graduated college. I dont blame any of them, I just keep on taking these exams cause Im just too stubborn.

The exam is a pain for sure but I disagree with your statement that it is harder than a Masters (I guess, depending on the program).

I'm much prouder of my Masters than my CPA to be honest, even though the CPA means more in the job market. My 1 year MACC program was difficult, filled with very smart and hardworking students, and required a ton of time/studying and I spent more time/effort going to classes, doing homework, doing projects, studying for exams…etc. during my 1 year MACC program than I did studying for the CPA exam while I was taking the exams.

I honestly believe that if most recent graduates just took 10 months off (no work, jobs or anything else) and focused on the CPA exams only with a good review course most would pass in less than 10 months. Hence Masters degree > CPA exam IMO. The CPA exam can become near impossible because of all the other stuff (jobs, education, family…etc.) that people are juggling at the same time.

I have a MAcc as well and I'd say my future CPA license I will be more proud of. So just a difference of opinion I guess. Both were extremely time consuming but if I had to pick one to do over, the lesser of two evils would be my MAcc. Although if someone told me I had to do either over again I'd probably just go be a bum. The CPA exam is that brutal.

@Annony, Where did you take the Macc?

Also for those who did get the Macc, I'd imagine the CPA would be easier for you after taking all the classes to prepare for it. But if you go for Macc after getting CPA and all the studying, Macc won't be as difficult for you.
