    97 on Audit????!!!!

Do you have any advice for those of us who are facing this exam in the next couple of weeks?

How would you characterize your SIMS? I have seen posts on here where people said their SIMS were straightforward and others that said they were brutal.

How did you feel when you left Prometric? Did you know you had nailed it?

    Thanks!!

I know this question wasn't for me, but since I got a 97, I am going to answer you:

    1. I practiced MCQs heavily because there was such little reading in Becker compared to the other books. I had Becker MCQs to keep me busy, and used CPAreviewforfree.com (something like that) as an alternate test bank.

    2. If you are confused about a topic, go read the actual GAAS guidance (whatever it is called, kind of sad I forgot already 🙂 ). Honestly, except for REG, where things are actually more confusing in tax code :), this is universal to exam topics.

    3. I practiced all of my SIMS twice. This was the only exam I practiced SIMS for, except 2/3t BEC WC.

Everyone has their beast and their “cheese.” This test was definitely cheese for me – I had 2:12 on my timer when I left.

    REG 80 2/7/11
    FAR 91 10/8/11
    AUD 97 11/22/11
    BEC 96 2/4/12

    CPA 3/15/13

Hi. Well, it was my second time taking AUD. The first time I took it, I thought the multiple choice questions were cake and the SIMS were a little vague, but answered them according to what I felt was “logical” and exited the exam with about 1.5 hours left….well I ended up failing lol… On my second round, I started fresh as if it were the first time studying.

1.I used Becker and went through the entire book once, and did all the multiple choice questions on Becker. On AUD, Becker's questions tend to repeat themselves (not necessarily the exact question, but the same concepts just different scenarios), I marked the questions that I felt were the core concepts and just kept on being repeated. I weeded out about half of the multiple choice population. This made my review go fast as I just re-did all the marked questions.

    2. I didn’t take any notes until the last week before my test and they were all based on multiple choice questions.

3.I supplemented with Wiley test bank. On the weekends, I would take 50 question quizzes and my goal was to score at least in the 70-80% range

4.Sims: I did maybe 3-4 practice sims per section I took. Don’t kill yourself trying to practice the SIMS because I honestly don’t think I could’ve possibly prepared for the ones I got. Just make sure you truly understand the material and use the Research tab as much as you can! I probably found at least 70% of the answers word-for-word by doing this.

5.AUD is 4 hours long and it is definitely more time than you need to actually finish the exam; however, don’t underestimate it! Take the time to review your testlets when you are done, I used every single second available.

6.I took a break after every single testlet (probably not the best idea lol), but I was just so hungry and thirsty after every testlet, if you are like me, take a snack or two with you.

7.My email is j . nuno at gwcc net . com if you have other questions

I also know this wasn't for me but I'll speak up anyway since I know what it feels like to fail and to pass.

Keep going through the MCQs but mix it up. I went through the questions by section twice, then took quizzes from Becker's supplementary questions (20-30 questions per quiz) to keep my mind sharp and note what I needed to tweak my knowledge on.

I don't really think there's a good way to study for the SIMS other than to learn the research function if you can. On the exam I think the best way to do the SIMS is to make sure you have a lot of time – try and budget at least 1.5 hours, but 2 is ideal if you can do it. Use the hell out of the authoritative literature on those. I'm almost positive I got one SIM completely right because I looked up every answer in the guidance.

When I left the first time I had no idea if I was going to pass or not, and I failed. When I left the second time I was about 90% sure I passed, but that's also because I slacked off the first time and studied way harder the second time.

    REG (7/7/11) 75
    FAR (7/28/11) 76
    BEC (8/27/11) 81
    AUD (10/15/11, 1/20/12) 63, 91

    DONE!!!

Oh and when I left Prometric on my second AUD try, I wasn't 100% I had passed, but I knew I had given the best battle I could…I put in all the effort humanly possible… I knew that if I failed again, I wouldn't know what else to do to pass. So just make sure you give it all you've got and you should walk out of Prometric feeling pretty confident with yourself.

@jenuno01 “… I knew that if I failed again, I wouldn't know what else to do to pass” <<< The three exams I passed, that was EXACTLY what I thought. It's true. All three of them heading in, “I wouldn't even know how to restudy for these, I did everything I could” I think that's when you know you're ready!

@Peanut, I agree 100%. In the end, we know when we've put ourselves in a good position to pass. I am so excited and jealous at the same time for you to be done Peanut! Have you heard anything from your Big 4 interview?

@Jenu, they JUST emailed me! You must have ESP. They offered for me to come in and interview either the 28th or the 29th.. I said the 29th for leap year luck 😛 maybe they will laugh when they see that. I was going to update my thread I created for it

@Tebowwwww, for AUD why did you only quiz yourself from supplemental questions in Becker? Just curious!

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

Thank you so much for replying and for your helpful advice, jenuno! I also thought you were a “Jen” until I saw another thread 🙂 And thanks to justin and tebow for chiming in with your great suggestions, too!

I was wondering why they give you 4 hours to take AUD b/c I can zip through 50 MCQ's in like 30 minutes. So maybe they design the SIMS to assume you are going to use 2.5/3 hours to research the answers?

I am scoring in the 70-80% range on Wiley test bank. Do you think that is sufficient? Do you think I need to supplement with any other test banks?

Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to respond 🙂

@ peanut – Congrats on your Big 4 in-office interview!! Way to go!

@pbandj you are welcome! And no biggie on the confusion:) I guess I would probably think a Jen is also a female haah (Jen is not my name btw lol). I think scoring in the 70-80% range on Wiley is pretty solid… you might want to consider doing some questions on cpareviewforfree . com , they have good questions as well.

Anyway, shoot me an email…I am logging off A71 right about now.
