Anyone popping in here, this is the continuation of a conversation in another thread. I’m just moving over here so we don’t take that one over.

@Lion, Ok, so anyway, yes, 12-16 hours is absolutely possible. I had no other choice, my NTS was expiring. I don’t think it’s possible for long periods but a short term fix, yes. The VERY short version of the Pomodoro Technique is 25 minutes of intense work, 5 minutes break. After four sets of those, you get a 30 minute break. You really should read the whole pdf book, though, there’s a lot more to it. It’s life changing.

By the way, is there any chance you’re from Asia? If so, I’d like to ask you a question.

@ Katiekanton-25mins of studying and 5mins break for four sets, then 25mins studying and 30 mins break. Correct? And Yes, I am from Asia.

Sorry, lost my internet connection. Piece of crap Belkin wireless router.

No, that's not quite the basic format, but again, it really is worth the time to read the pdf. It doesn't take long. It's not a full length book. It's really:

25 mins work, 5 mins break

25 mins work, 5 mins break

25 mins work, 5 mins break

25 mins work, 30 mins break

25 mins work, 5 mins break

25 mins work, 5 mins break

25 mins work, 5 mins break

25 mins work, 30 mins break

    etc.

I guess if you wanted to keep it on the :00 and :30 of the clock you could make that 30 minutes into a 35 minutes break.

Well, I figured with “lion” in your name it was either China or Africa. Are you in China? I ask because in the next few years, I am looking to move to China, India, or the Philippines for volunteer/humanitarian work, specifically orphanages if possible, and am wondering if I can work as a CPA or if there's any demand for U.S. accountants there so that I can pay my own way and not take any funds from whatever organization I'm volunteering for. Do you have any advice or knowledge about that?

By the way my email address is in my profile if you'd rather talk offline (less public).

@ Katiekanton- I have been living in US from past couple of years and I LOVE IT.

My personal opinion would be: If someone have connections in Asia or within a company that you like to work for and it will be safe and fun journey then go ahead.

    Downside of working in Asia:

    * Most companies are foreign companies and the pay is very less.

    * Long hours not standard 8hrs.

    * And you have to work at night, because it will be day time in US, Canada…etc.

    * Benefits are up to limit.

    * You have to understand there law, accounting and tax if you decided to work in local company.

I am not discouraging you, but US have more opportunity.

I wondered if it might be easier to get a job with a US firm that has offices in Asia, and then transfer intra-company. Sounds like you think so. I have a friend who spent a year working in China, and that's what I'd really love to do, but I may have to wait until I don't need income or just decide to teach English. Or I have another friend that opened an orphanage in the Philippines, so I may be able to do something there.

Thanks so much for the advice!

I just downloaded the Pomodoro book & all the accompanying worksheets. Should make for interesting reading and if it works, so much the better! Thanks for the tip, I will take any and all reasonable advice I can get. 🙂
