How did you guys do? I baaaaaaaarely passed and I’m shocked that I did. I knew the testlets got harder and the 3rd was pretty rough, but I thought the sims destroyed me. My guess is that I only scored 50% -ish on the sims, but I scored well enough on the MCQs and decent enough on the sims to pass. I am still in shock. Sooooo glad I passed, but I didn’t want to make it so close. Let me know how you all did!

@rubie145 – I am so sorry to hear that. What's your plan of attack for the retake? What study materials do you have? Using Wiley as well?

Im going through making a study plan as we speak…..Im going to start studying tomorrow since I have only not been studying for a week so I feel I need to Jump back in. I used Wiley the first time around and did every multiple choice given so I'm rethinking that approach I bought Lamber test software in Oct. but didnt really use it for AUD i think this time around I will. They have PDF they include with the software so I have printed those out and and pretty much broken out what I plan to accomplish each day on a calendar. Basic day would be reading the PDF files and making my own notes from those PDF so I have something condensed but that I understand and create flash cards. Next day type notes and bust down MCQ. Im planning to review flash cards everyday and HANDWRITE notes on Sundays for the material I have condensed!!! Im hoping this along with possibly handwriting the ninja notes and KILLING MYSELF with MCQ will help me. Im planning for Jan 9th because I have to take BEC by the end of February because of NTS!!! My bestfriend who is behind me 100% is commiting herself to helping me study!! IDK im willing to try anything at this point to pass… Any tips you want to give jjm1181 im def up to hearing!! OAN CONGRATS ON UR PASS DEF.PROUD OF U!!!!

I think that plan sounds pretty good. I know what thing I've done that has helped me a lot is that I write down notes for MCQs I don't know. I then review those notes extensively up til the day of the exam. I also used Becker's final review course which concentrated on the main topics and I made sure I read that book often. I also watched the lectures for the final review often. That way I was nailing down the major topics daily while pounding out MCQs that helped learn the niche topics.

Did you feel very prepared when you took the exam last? I know for FAR, I knew all the major topics well and was only worried about the random ones.

I also feel like there is some luck involved though. My AUD sims SUCKED, but I think I did well enough on the MCQs to barely pull it out. On FAR, I got sims that I knew for sure so that clearly helped.

I felt prepared and I didnt leave feeling like I failed that exam so I think it is nailing areas because I understand the grand scheme of things!! How did you like becker final review… maybe I can get that to help as well!! IDK how to prepare for SIMS what do you use??

For the SIMS, I just practiced a few before the exam to get a feel for what they could ask. There is no way to actually prepare since they can ask and format the questions any possible way. Best advice is to know the concepts and use the research tool for the SIMS. Leave yourself plenty of time to research topics on the SIMS that you aren't familiar with.

Regarding writing down notes on MCQs you missed, I thought I would pass along my habit that I really feel helped me. As I was going through all the MCQs, if there was a question I didn't KNOW the answer to, or a question that I really wanted to pound in, I would take a screenshot of the box that came up with the explanation and correct answer (in other words, if I got it wrong, I'd go back and answer it until I got it right, then take a screenshot of that box with the explanation included). I pasted this picture into a word document. Three can fit on a page. Then I printed this word doc and went over it again and again. I really feel this helped save time by not doing MCQs I had already mastered, and focused time on the ones I needed help with. And for me, having them in a different format (i.e. on paper that can be taken to the grocery store, stuffed in a purse, left in the bathroom, etc.) helped.

    To do this:

    1. When you've got the window up that you want to take a screenshot of, hold down the ALT button and then press “print screen” on your keyboard (usually on the upper row, over on the right, ALT printscreen should just take a picture of the active window rather than your whole desktop).

    2. Open a word doc, set the margins to narrow and press CTRL-V (which is paste).

    3. Click on the picture it inserted, and if you want to cut off the excess, under “picture tools – format” at the top of the screen, click on “crop”. Use the two corner handles to drag in the borders to eliminate the excess.

    4. If you'd like, add a border by right clicking on the picture, clicking format picture, and under line color choose solid line.

You can add the crop and border tools to the “ribbon” so they're a one click shortcut key. If you want to make the box smaller so you can get more on a page, click off the picture (to deselect the crop tool), then click back on it and use the corner “dots” to enlarge or shrink the picture. Switch between windows quickly by using ALT-TAB (you'll need to know that for the work world so you can switch off a screen when your boss is headed your way without touching your mouse).

All this sounds like it takes forever, but if you add the shortcuts to the ribbon, you can do it in less than 5 seconds per screenshot.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a substitute for doing MCQs over and over. This is a help that enabled me to do MORE MCQs because I wasn't struggling with the same ones over and over a week apart.

@katiekanton Thanks for sharing a study hint, it means something coming from someone who scored an 88. I'm waiting for BEC (457) and it is so distracting! I started studying for Auditing right away and felt very confident about BEC but the more time that goes by the less sure of anything I am.

Considering that we are thousands of voices strong on this forum and of above average intelligence (we have all fulfilled the rigorous requirements to sit for the CPA exam) it just seems wrong that some of us lose days of our life wondering when our score will be available (refresh, refresh-how many times?) . Could a tiny percentage of our millions of dollars in repeat exam fees be used to continually streamline the process to keep us better informed about the timing of the release of our scores?

OK that's my thank you and my vent… Thank G-d for this forum! Refresh- refresh?

I have no idea where I went wrong, I'm still shocked and reeling from my score

I'll slay this beast next time

@kmcg4k – So what you're saying is that my 75 doesn't qualify me for giving study advice? Because I completely agree. On FAR, I feel like I have some credibility, but for AUD, I just got lucky enough on a MCQ or two to pass. 🙂

@goodluck2everyone – Sorry to hear about your score. I felt the same way you did after I took the exam. Felt like the SIMS destroyed me. I must have done just enough to get by. Still in shock. I usually have bad luck so I figured I would be prime for a 73 or 74. By the way, my test was VERY RISKY. Seriously. I studied and still got screwed on it.
