@undeniabletwins2, thanks, I think I'm going to do just that. I'm going to try and watch as much of the lectures I can this weekend and leave 2 weeks for notes & mcq. I'm not expecting to pass but I'm going to put up a fight.

@Hustlin-we're in the same boat. How are you progessing?

@charliecharlie-do you actually have Roger there in person? I signed up for his live classes in West LA until I found out it was just him on tv and switched to online. I really like him. One needs humor for this stuff.

That's great! Let me know if you have any questions about the city.

Roger is great. He made me laugh out loud many times, and I understand audit way better after those three days than I did after a semester of it in accounting school. The live course is somewhat overwhelming...eight hours of information is a lot to ingest. By the end of the day, it was pretty hard for me to focus. I'm thinking of doing the next part online so I can do one subject at a time.

Hey Wiley Guy!

I thought I would pass on a "good thing". I started a practice session early this morning and had to leave for a few hours and then I came back and jumped right in without getting bounced out!! Before, if you paused for a few minutes, you might run the risk of getting knocked out. Yahoo!

Not sure I understand your last comment above. But I would be happy to see that the Practice sessions getting scored on the first answer. Any way to show all the answers upon selecting an answer? I like how that was before. It also seemed like Wiley showed more of why something was wrong before and now there is alot of "wrong answer" instead of an explanation.
Thanks!

@yankeeaccountant keep it coming -- nothing is superfluous. I'll share a date for the scoring update (score first answer in Practice Session and Pop Quiz) when I have a solid time line. For Practice Test mode the scoring would continue to use "final answer" -- that's what users would want, correct?

I had Becker for 2010-2011 and didn't really use the materials to the best of my ability so it isn't shocking that I missed passing my exams (AUD, BEC and FAR by only 2-5 pts apiece). I don't want to reuse Becker for the time being because I need to shake it up. I just purchased Yaeger/Wiley for FAR and if I pass I'll pick it up for REG and maybe BEC. I'll probably pick up Roger for AUD since I have heard good things about his energy level and the dry vastness that is AUD in general. I may even pick up Becker again for BEC since I like the pneumonics and all for the Cost Acctg, etc.

I have learned my lesson that not all CPA software packages fit your needs for all four sections of the exam. Sure you can save some money buying all four from one source but with the discounts for 2nd timers with most, if not all, CPA software programs (and hopefully only having to retake the exams once again) it should even out...

And of course I picked up the Ninja notes/flashcards, too. I'll even pick up a few different test banks if needed.

Good luck!!

I wouldn't re-buy Becker, but the information in it will still be valid. I can't answer for what the software does (i.e. if it locks you out), but the books plus a Wiley testbank would probably be fine if you can learn that way. If not, Wiley, Yaeger, Roger, and Bisk are all cheaper than Becker, and there are plenty of posters who have used them successfully.

thanks everyone.. @katiekanton, you say I should keep the becker but the problem with that is I didnt plan on taking any exams until July and August. May is pretty packed so with that being said I dont know if I want to spend all the money on Becker after it expires.

I would put off this decision until your material actually expires. I don't really think you need to buy anything else. You said the reason you didn't pass was because you rushed through, not that you didn't learn the material. Take a section before it expires and see how well you do. You might be fine with the Becker stuff you already have, supplemented with a Wiley test bank.

I purchased Steve Martin MDS CPA Review (didn't have Becker before though). It is pretty reasonable price wise and I have passed two tests so far using it. He condenses the material as much as possible so that you don't get overwhelmed with material. I would look at his website to check and see if it could possibly work for you.

Im looking to getting new review material. I was using becker but it expires in May of 2012. Since my firm will not pay upfront I am looking into Roger or Yaeger ( herd good things about both). The first & only exam I took using Becker I did not pass. I do not blame becker because I really thought I learned the material. I think I didnt pass due to the fact that the day of the exam I had alot going on and my mind was in another place. I subcontiously rushed through the exam so that I wasnt late for another appointment I had after. Can anyone tell me there experience on either or going from becker to another. Im still going to keep the becker Books. (also what happens with the becker software when it expires? if its on ur computer does it just deny access after the expired date).

@Wiley answer guy !

Thanks for the info. It helped. It just seems so cumbersome to go back and have to change the right answers back to the wrong answers so that you can really know how you did.

Weird thing happening now is that I can't see the "start" "cancel" button to start my next practice session, so I am stuck. I guess it is time for a dinner break. But UGH! I guess I can go to test mode or pop quiz mode, but I like to methodically do all the q's in a section then move on till I am done.....sorry, I guess you don't need all the superfluous info ;P

@goodluck

I think I can put in my two cents. It has taken me 4 times to pass this one. Best thing I can say is that I use two testbanks. I have Becker, which I got thru work, so I feel like I paid so much for it that I can't waste the test bank. So, I do all the mcq's in Becker first, doing progress tests (as in A1 and A2, when finish A3, then a progress test on A1, A2, A3, and so forth) Then I switch to Wiley. For some crazy reason, I get so used to Becker questions quickly. Then I do the Wiley questions like crazy. Usually I do all the Wiley in the test bank. This last time, I didn't have time, so I just did tests in Wiley since I had done all the questions in the Wiley review guide for Audit. Don't forget the AICPA q's and sims. Great practice.

Audit is doable. This is the one exam that time is your friend. I rarely have heard of anyone running out of time. That being said, take a deep breath and READ the question. Audit is the trickiest Dick (Sorry Mr. President) around!!! I took 30/40 minutes each testlet and that was taking my sweet time.

Lastly, tell yourself you got it. Attitude goes a long way. This is probably one of my biggest obstacles: ME. I am really good at talking myself out of the game.

Best of luck to you next week!!

well I'm studying for audit for the second time and I'm finding myself scoring in the 80s (and 90s sometimes) on sample testlets. I take it again in a week and need a last boost of motivation from people who struggled with audit and passed it later :)

I would agree with the above posts--the lectures for AUD didn't really do that much for me considering they have you highlight practically everything in the Becker books. I've made my way through all the book material and I can say that I've gotten more comfortable with the material by simply repeating the 100 question progress tests and reading the answers when reviewing each test. When I realize the chapters I'm weaker in, I go back to the book and review only that material. Again and again and again. Hopefully we all stay above the avg. candidate over the next few weeks of this window and can all move on from AUD.

Cosmo, you are already ahead of me. I'm only on A1 still....puh....
Thinking about ditching the lectures and reading just to hammer out as many MCQs and Sims as possible.

@jeff thx
@rknight21 The honest feedback is appreciated -- what's got you nervous? You have a little while to still use the 2011 platform (deff Feb and March).

SIMS DO HAVE PARTIAL SCORING
From out tech team: "The grading is based upon the collective score of all the correct options. So for e.g. if an Auditing simulation (that has a total 9.5 marks) has 10 options to fill up, each option will carry equal weight, so each option will carry 0.95 marks in this case. All simulations, from any subject work in a similar fashion and none of them has all-or-nothing grading."

I am starting to prepare for REG come Saturday and I must say I am nervous and disappointed with the 2012 Wiley software. For a while I was feeling good knowing I would have a friends 2011 test bank but now I see on Wiley's site that the 2011 version will be discontinued come this spring...smh

@mopena14 Any answer with A, B, C, D out of order is not intentional. We used a more robust randomizer compared to 2011 and for some answers the letters were incorrectly randomized with the answer text. We're working on fixing these. (We welcome anyone posting question IDs here to speed our identifying them.)

@jjm1181 Yes that is how the system is currently being scored -- based on last answer chosen, not first answer chosen. This is our #1 priority update.

@undeniabletwins2 Sims should be scoring with partial credit a they did in the 2011 test bank. Please post the specific sims here if you would like us to look into the ones you think did not score correctly.
