After failing AUD recently when I Thought I had a chance to pass, I've decided I want to take more time to study for FAR instead of taking it at the end of this month. I'd like to reschedule it for April, but my Notice to Schedule date ends March 13.

How would I go about this? Can I cancel my exam, pay the $35 fee, and then have to wait for after march 13 to apply for a new notice to schedule and reschedule my test and it only cost me another $15 to apply for the new NTS?

Would anyone happen to have an idea when the ability to schedule a test for April will open up? I planned on taking regulation in the beginning of April, but when I went to prometrics nothing was available past February.

I was getting ready to print my NTS for BEC tomorrow morning at 8am and I noticed that I received an email from Prometric (Saturday morning) indicating that my exam was cancelled due to technical issues. OMG! My credit for REG expires on 1/31. Has anyone else run into a similar situation? Will I still lose REG if I can't take BEC before 1/31?

So here is my situation:

I am from Ohio and was fortunate enough to be able to graduate after 4 years of undergrad with 150 credit hours (due to bringing with me some AP Credits, taking the maximum number of credits allowed each semester, and taking a couple of online community college classes).

I am graduating on May 20th, and will begin working full-time with one of the Big 4 in late August. My plan for the summer is to pass all 4 parts of the CPA Exam. I would like to sit for 1 part end of May, 1 part begining of July, 1 part end of July, and 1 part mid-August. I will start studying for the 1st part as soon as my last final is over on May 10th.

I am just about to fill out and send my online CPA application and certificate of enrollment. However, I realize that I will not be provided with my NTS until they receive my final transcript with my degree posted. Even though my school posts our finals grades on May 14th, they will not send out my final transcript until May 18th, which means it will not be in the Board's hands until Monday May 21st. I have been told that it takes 3 days from when the final transcript is received to be emailed the NTS, so I expect to receive my NTS on May 24th. I also understand that exams must be scheduled 5 days in advance, so my only options for scheduling an exam in May are May 29th, 30th, or 31st.

What are the chances that on May 24th, I will be able to find an open seat to sit for the exam on May 29th, 30th, or 31st? I am in Cleveland, and willing to travel if necessary to sit (I understand it is OK to take the test at a Prometric Center out-of-state too, so I am fine traveling to Buffalo, Detroit, Pittsburgh, etc.)?

Because June is the blackout month for exam testing, I do not want to have to wait until July to take the 1st part of the test. I don't see my situation as that unsuual, which is why I am surprised I have not been able to find any information on it anywhere online.

Your advice and comments about how to approach this situation are appreciated

I have a question--when I applied for the CPA exam back in September I only applied to FAR...I know seems stupid of me to do that since I have to take all of them. Now do I have to redo the whole application to apply for the other sections?? Shouldn't my information be saved??
This is annoying, I would assume that the information should be there...

Question: My REG credit will expire on July 25th, 2012 (the first exam credit that is due to expire). I only need to pass FAR to have all 4 complete. My concern is, if circumstances force me to take FAR in July, can I sit any day before the 25th, pass, and still hold on to my REG credit???

I guess the hypothetical situation I'm playing out in my head is: I sit for FAR July 20th, 2012. Score isn't released until (guess) August 6th.. however, regardless if i passed/failed I would have already lost credit for REG on the 25th of July.

Might be a dumb question but I figured you exam experts on here could help and give me some security.

Hey everyone! So my friend/coworker took her FAR exam this past Saturday and when she was on her 3rd simulation the calculator malfunctioned and it automatically shut her computer down. She is obviously very upset because she feels like she did awesome on the multiple choice questions and the sims up to that point, but the testing center wasn't able to pull it back up and all NASBA is willing to do is letting her retake the exam for free. Has anyone else experienced an issue like this and got a more favorable response from NASBA like, we will grade your MCQ and give you 7 new sims or grade what she did up to that point (the prometric center said your data is saved after each question you answer) and let her know if she passed/failed so she can retake for free?

I know I have to take two forms of ID to the testing center along with my NTS. I'm taking REG in the morning and I just noticed that my drivers license has my middle name spelled out, and all my other forms of ID and my NTS have just my middle initial. Is that going to cause me a problem at Prometric? My drivers license is the only photo ID that I have.

I would think it wouldn't be a problem since I signed my license with just my middle initial and my signature on that matches the signature on all my other forms of ID. But I suppose it's a nice diversion to be freaking out about whether I'll be allowed to take the test instead of if I'm actually ready to take the test! :p

Just wondering if anyone else has run into problems with something like this.

I graduated in May and am now working full time. I graduated with accounting as 1 of my degrees however ended up taking 1 class less than what is needed due to time constraints.

I've taken advanced accounting courses (pension accounting, etc.), concepts in taxation, managerial accounting, and audit, along with plenty of intro accounting, an ethics course, etc. I plan to take another class in tax online and need a school to take it.

The one that immediately came to my mind is Phoenix, and the CPA guidelines allow it because it is accredited. In reality, their course is 5 weeks long and I'm hearing that the knowledge gained will likely be minimal and just enough to remain accredited. Is this what others have experienced, and if so, do you have any recommendations on where to take a class from an online accredited school?

Hello,

I live in California, and I was planning to start taking live Becker courses beginning on Oct. 10th (REG) to hopefully sit for an exam in both Nov (REG) and Dec (BUS). However, I'm still very early in the application process, as I've yet to even send my check and remittance form in the mail (I plan to do so this week; I sent my college resumes 2-3 weeks ago). I don't want to pay for Becker tuition and then be unable to sit for any exams.

Do you think I'll be able to receive my NTS in time and schedule my exam dates? Or should I just wait on taking courses? Unfortunately, I'm thinking the latter because by the time I even receive my NTS, all of the exam dates will probably be filled. And what if there are some complications with the application process along the way?

I really regret not doing all of this right after graduation in May. Instead, I wanted to gain work experience, so I found a job at a finance company and I've been working since. This current job did help me get hired at a CPA firm as a staff accountant in the tax department. The new job starts in January--which is why I wanted to start with REG, as it would help me review for tax. I also wanted to pass two sections of the CPA exam before I started work because I wouldn't be able to study until busy season is over.

I'm still confused about the whole application process and what to do. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post!

Thank you so much.

Hi everyone

So far I have passed 3 sections, hoping to get it all over with. There is only one problem. My employer's policy is that you must obtain a CPA license in the state where you are doing work. Is there simply just a fee I can pay to get this changed?

You would probably laugh after reading this post - when i went to the testing center at 2 (an hour before my "scheduled" time) the moderator said there are no more candidates scheduled for the day. Turns out my exam was at 13:00 and due to all the stress surrounding the exam...i had for some reason seen 3 only. so for a weeks i believed that was my scheduled time and didn't bother re-checking. I sent an email to NASBA to check if they can reset my eligibility to take the exam hopefully in a week. Expecting their response tomorrow.

HighMileageDude on "Why do Prometric testing computers make grindingNoises when moving thru exam?"

Generally, every time I've taken a CPA section at a Prometric Center, I've noticed my computer makes weird grinding noises (like it's working very hard) whenever I'm:

A) moving in between multiple choice questions OR

B) submitting my testlet to get to the next testlet (especially).

Now this may not be the case at all Prometric locations, but I'm wondering if Prometric could seriously consider upgrading their computers at these locations to something with more memory/processing speed (instead of having us take our CPA exam on what seem like computers from the 1990s). These old machines Prometric has for us (again, may only be at locations where I took my exams) may be fine for the tests others are taking (such as GED/Real Estate/etc), but I have to say that they seemed (from my testing experiences) unable to handle the workload of the 2011 CBT-e Uniform CPA examination.

When I took FAR a few months ago (2011), I often had to keep my fingers crossed that my computer terminal wouldn't freeze every time I clicked a bit too quickly between the multiple choice questions. The only real problem I had though (minor compared to others I hear about) was that my Prometric computer froze when I was in the TBS(simulations) for at least a good 1min or so when I tried to do in my TBS/sims what was probably too many things at once for my computer's memory:
1) double-click one of the blank boxes to bring up a pop-up showing clickable answer choices AND 2) simultaneously pop up the AICPA-provided computer calculator.
So during the 1min or so it froze, I was trying to raise my hand to get the Prometric proctor to tell her what happened, but before I got her attention, it suddenly unfroze and everything was fine.

So I could be wrong but I think there's an issue with old machines being used at certain Prometric locations that don't have the memory and processing speed to handle the CPA exam.

The computers we all study on (PC or MAC if we use Becker, Wiley, Roger, Yaeger, etc) seem to all have tons more memory and processing speed than a Prometric testing terminal. So when I go through a Becker practice final, I'm not getting all these random grinding noises like my computer is exhausted. Why do we have to put up with this at Prometric? Perhaps Becker needs to add grinding noises to its prep program for added realism?

Now, maybe I'm missing something because the actual CPA is adaptive so maybe the computer needs extra time to analyze the "statistical chacteristics"(weighting of questions -> http://www.nccpaboard.gov/clients/ncboa/public/static/How_the_CPA_Exam_is_Scored.pdf) whenever you submit a testlet and move on to the next one (so it can decide the difficulty of the next testlet). Or maybe it's working hard sending our testlet #1 results to another machine before we can move on. But there's always lots of grinding noises before the next testlet comes. Why is this? And of course there are some weird noises and general sluggishness maneuvering within each testlet. Why is this?

This may seem like a silly question but I hope someone can help!

I took BEC in August and failed with a 69. I am trying to take it again at the end of November (as my NTS expires in December) but am having trouble scheduling on the Prometric website. It says that my section ID is not correct, but I copied it directly from my NTS.

I should be able to use the NTS again because it has not yet expired, correct? I don't need a new one if the date is still valid?

Thanks!!

I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem???

My NTS expired a week ago and I am trying to re-apply via the MA NASBA online application. However, when I get to the point in the process where I am supposed to select the exams I want to take there is absolutely no way to select an exam. I have tried multiple browsers and computers. I just want to schedule BEC and get this darned exam over with!

Thanks in advance for any help!

I know this sounds like sour grapes from the start but I have two reasons I am considering paying the $400 to see my exam.

1. When I signed out after the exam Prometric lost my exam and could not find it. Another employee said it just looked like it was lost but really was not. They did not find it before I left the testing center but he assured me it was fine. I believed him until I saw my score report.

2. I felt extremely confident on MC and especially on Governmental. I teach a class on governmental accounting so I know what right is. My exam review said I was weak in Governmental, strong in not for profit, comparable in everything else to passing candidates. Then at the bottom weaker overall in MC.

If they did locate my exam and these are my true scores then I am really confused about where to go from here. I need to see it to see what to change because I would have bet my house that I did really well on MC and governmental. I concede that my simulations were not as strong. I could have failed based on Sims but I don't see it based on MC.

Can anyone offer any advice?
