So far I have:

1. Watched all lectures in Becker
2. Read over every chapter
3. Done all homeworks but skipped over the supplementary questions(Did not get below an 82% on R1-R4 but did get a couple of 69% on some of the law stuff)

Now I am:

Re-reading every chapter, doing the supplementary questions that I did not do, and doing progress tests after every chapter. I will be done reviewing on Saturday (with 6 days left) and will take a practice exam on Sunday and one on Tuesday.

Do you guys think I'm ready for this?

Hey Everyone,

I've noticed in a lot of these topics/responses that some people prefer to do thousands of multiple choice questions as a method of learning and was wondering how well this worked?

I spoke with a few professors at my school's acct department (granted, they are not professional test-takers) and they felt that too many students focus on MCQs, but really don't get the concepts and stall when they sit for the test; they simply end up memorizing practice answers. Anyways, the consensus was MCQs should only be used to evaluate where you stand after you feel that you've mastered certain concepts. Example of a typical week: After studying concepts for 20 hours, do 1 hr of questions, as opposed to studying for 14 hours and doing 7 hours of questions.

Just wondering if any of you passed this way? I read in a post that someone did 3,000 questions in one month. That comes out to about 100 questions a day, which @ an average of 1.5 minutes a question, comes out to 2.5 hrs a day? That's a lot of questions and a lot of study time devoted to them!

Good Luck!

I graduate back in 2008 with accounting degree. Since then I am working on different jobs that are not related to accounting, because no body was willing to hire me on accounting jobs (lack of experience). Currently, I have a job and its not related to accounting and decided to study for the CPA exam. Hope to pass all the section and then someone will hire me.

Should I pursue the CPA exam or should I look into something different (Career Change)?

I'm writing this post to see what others think in regard to my overall feeling on FAR.

I felt good about the 1st testlet, pretty good about the 2nd testlet, the 3rd was a bit of a challenge, but in comparison to my past FAR exams, I would say I felt OK on the 3rd testlet. OVERALL, I felt GOOD on the MCQs. I gave myself an hour for the sims and by the time i got halfway through, I was scrambling through them due to time. They were tough. Only one of the sims did I feel absolutely sure that I knocked it out. The others, I felt like I was just kind of putting as many right answers as I could. I couldn't even do the research questions.

Has anyone been under the same experience?

I'm having trouble re-applying to take the exam with the online system. I can log on and my past exams and scores are listed, but it's asking me to re-enter all my info, including all my educational credit hours and dates. Am I doing this wrong? I wouldn't think I'd have to do this each time I register. Thanks.

No, I'm not talking about Prometric's rules, or AICPA's rules. I'm talking about rules you need to know to take the CPA exam. These are based primarily on the experience of the CPA test takers.

I'll start off with one.

Rule#1: If something is on the CSO's, and you blow it off, you are guaranteed to see a material percent of it on your actual CPA exam. This is a variation of Murphy's law.

Hello
I am an international student studying in the states
I have been studying since Dec, 2011.
I spend 6 to 8 hrs a day for the FAR and REG section. I think I am dedicated to this thing...
Since I am studying with 2011 yaeger review, I worry if I am studying the wrong material.
Can anyone help me with this ?
I just want to ge some advices on changes in 2012 cpa exam.

I checked AICPA website and did not find any announcement on the changes to the exam except the one that is
effective in 2013.
Other than that, is there major differences in 2012 exam?

I just wanted to say hi, I'm Ashley. I graduated Dec 2011 and I am going to start studying for the CPA exam. I ordered Yaeger and I have to wait until Monday before it arrives. I currently work 25ish hours a week. I am a school bus driver so I work mornings/afternoons. Anyways, I have been trying to think of how I want to go about taking the exam. I sent in my application & transcripts so hopefully I will hear back soon. I was thinking of taking FAR in April, AUD in May, take the summer off (I might intern or maybe just enjoy it if I can't get an internship?) and then going after REG in October and BEC in November. I am wondering if I am drawing this thing out too long? Especially with the 18 month frame. I could have the worst time with BEC, just because it's last. I thought if I had to retake either of the first two, I would do it in the summer so that wouldn't mess up the rest of the schedule. Another thought I have is that I only work part time, so why couldn't I get this thing done and over with sooner? I just know that when I get an accounting job, I may never have a summer like the one coming. I'm not sure about studying for the exam during an internship. If I get the internship I am hoping for, then I really want to focus on that.

I am just trying to hear other people's perspectives. I only know one person who has taken the CPA exam in the last 25 years and she is pretty busy with work. I just don't know know how to approach the exam. I can't really decide what to do. I was thinking that the schedule I mentioned would allow me to also have free time... balance :). But I know I can push myself hard if I wanted to. Maybe you could tell me, is it harder to learn lots of information in a short time, or better in a longer period? Could someone learn better studying 30 hours versus 20 hours a week or vice versus? I would think there would be a threshold where after a certain amount of hours a week it would be impossible to retain it all. Okay, enough rambling on, please give me your advice. Please be nice, but honest with your answers :) I know it's a monster of a test and any feedback I get is GREATLY appreciated! I just want to make a good plan and get going on this thing.

P..s. Is it crazy that I am excited to start studying? I keep telling myself, you will regret this thought soon enough haha.

I have recently passed all four parts of the CPA exam and I am interested in applying at a Big 4 firm in Sacramento. I am appyling from out of state as we are trying to move closer to where my wife and my family are.

I am nervous about just applying online, as I know I have a much better chance of getting an interview if I can contact someone directly at one of the four firms and introduce myself.

I figure there has to be a lot of people at big four firms from Sacramento that are currently taking the CPA exam and are active on this blog. This may be a shot in the dark.

Can anyone hook me up with a contact person at one of these firms that I can email a resume to and introduce myself too? Thanks!

So I'm taking REG on 2/20 and in the final review stage right now.

I'm basically going over all the Becker passmaster & final review MCQs & the SIMS.

So far, I have done R1 & R2 and scored about 95% in passmaster and 100% in the Becker final review.
I also did 2 sets of individual taxation MCQs & SIMS in Wiley and scored 88% & 84%, respectively. (Btw, Wiley's SIMS are SO FREAKIN' HARD compared to Becker. Is that just me?)

I have couple questions:
1). How many questions does Wiley have? I have the 2011 test bank. I wish there was a way to do all "individual taxation" MCQs and SIMs at once. I prefer that more than doing different sets. Is there a way to do that?

2). Am I doing this right? Should I be focusing on something else...? I'm taking this for the 3rd time, granted I wasn't prepared last two times...BUT I'm so nervous and really really want to pass this time around.

Thank you for reading & Good Luck to everyone!!

Hello all,
I am new to the forum. I am enrolled in the Becker fast track program, my first exam is going to be the FAR, YEAH!!! I am wondering if there is anyone out there that can provide me with some guidance, as far as the best, most efficient way to study (what has worked for them). I can not get over the depth of this thing, I knew it was going to be bad, but not this bad... I am looking to take the FAR at the end of February. I had problems with the software and wasted a week talking to their technical support department, all they really want to do is exchange e-mails it seems. I am finally up and running now, just having to play catch-up, which I am not fond of. Anyhow, thanks to any and all that can provide useful information, guidance with this. Good luck to everyone!!
Best

The reporting is stellar. I've gone through a few 20 MCQ practice sessions and am able to get a good grasp on my weak areas. The statistics are much more in-depth than the previous version.

Also, being able to copy and paste explanations saves me time on writing out explanations and then retyping them for a more friendly format.

Just wanted to say good job in these two areas.

I'm redoing Becker SIMS and I'm little confused.

On one of the R2 SIMS (related to Schedule A), I'm asked to list bunch of itemized deductions...including the medical and theft losses. However, when I'm listing the medical deduction, they ignore the "7.5% limitation" and add all the expenses (disregarding the percentage limitation)....BUT same isn't done when it comes to casualty and theft losses.

SO, if I'm asked to fill out schedule A (I doubt I'll be since this will be so easy), should I enter the amount after taking percentage limitation or without it?

This might be a dumb question, but had to ask. Thanks:)

So I am debating on buying the Ninja software to help me with the CPA exam. I've tried Becker, but I haven't really had time to study and I get bored with the hours of lectures.
I'm afraid with Ninja that there won't be enough material covered. Has anyone used this? I tried looking up reviews but the only website it brought me to was another71.com,

Thoughts???
