I think it depends on the person. I didn't studying all the way up until the test. I felt like that actually leads to burning out on test day. I did MCQ all the way up until about 3 days before the test. I'd go over notes the day before but only for half a day. I felt good on test day and didn't feel tired or burnt out how I would when I did a whole bunch of MCQ. Worked for me

This is what I do for the last 7 days before the exam. Do MCQ in the morning(10-20 questions), read notes during lunch(20-30mins), more MCQs during afternoon (30-60 questions) and finish the night with more notes. GL!

Thanks for the study advice. I will work more MCQ and Sims.

@IwannaBaCPA: I believe the JE sims will be along the lines of correcting entries. If you've passed FAR, you should have a good understanding of how accounts are affected by various transactions. Thanks, kb24 for the link, that helps.

@jomarie: I can kind of relate to what you're going through. I'm beginning to feel the pressure. The last 2 days it seems the things I thought I knew, I can't recall. Now I'm in a panic. Maybe i'm just in AUD overload. I do find repetiveness with the mcq helps.

I am too taking Audit in a week. Needless to say I'm scared!! I have a habit that formed recently with taking this exam. When I sit and do MCQs and if I don't get them right, I panic!! It happened again this morning. I think that's my problem when I sit for the exam as well. When I get a question I'm not sure of I panic. Any suggestions??

I too take Audit in a week and am trying hard to finish up my studying...I am a way behind, so I am focusing on the main things Becker emphasized in the lectures and hoping for the best...

I am not sure how to prepare for the SIMS though...a lot of people have mentioned J/E, but Becker didn't really touch on that, so where else is a good resource for those types of SIMS?

I agree with Taxi Cow's suggestion for doing mini-quizzes by a category on a test bank to help identify your weak areas that need more work. You can also go through the CSO to make sure you've addressed all the potential topics on the exam. Finally, if you haven't already done so, memorize the unqualified opinion and the differences between it and the other types of opinions.

I did Wiley CD MCQ in 20-25 question mini-tests by category (ie, I selected the questions instead of using the default set of questions). This showed me the areas I was weak in and I went back and studied those areas. I found that extremely helpful.

I have a week before I sit for my first exam (AUD). I've been through the reading, lectures, review, mcq, etc. I still need to take the sample test & sample from the AICPA released questions but that should only take a day or so.

In your experience, what is the best way to spend the last week preparing for the exam?

I'm doing all 4 tests this window. However, I'm not a typical candidate. I'm not working right now so all I do all day every day is study. I did FAR first because it had the most material and I had the most time to prepare for it. I'm doing the other tests every two weeks. Originally I'd thought that I could begin studying for the next test before taking the prior one, but I realized that distracts me from the current test and doesn't help me that much for the next one. I intensely cover the material for one test, take it, and begin studying for the next one that night. Only 7 more days and I'm done--at least for this window. You're much better off with your current plan. It might take a little longer, but you probably have a greater chance of success.

PASSED....that's a great summary for people to review.

I started out with all 4 sections of the Becker classroom training. I needed that as a base.

I bought more review materials after that (Excel flash cards, Yaegar Audio and DVD's, etc.)

I don't care that my scores weren't that high because a) it doesn't matter, a pass is a pass b) I was more efficient in studying for the exam than the guy with the 97 and also effective as evident in my passing score. Firms want to hire people who are efficient AND effective. If person A put in a 100 hours of studying and received a 75 and person B put in 200 hours and received a 95, who is more efficient? Exactly :-)

After more thought, I've decided to do AUD on July 16 and BEC on Aug 27. That gives me about 6 weeks for each section. I just received my review material but have not started yet because I'm also taking my last 2 masters courses.

I realize some may not recommend taking two tests per window but I am really anxious to get this done. I want to keep the momentum going after I finish grad school. I feel if I don't keep up the study pace I'm currently on, I will slack off and my study habits for the CPA will become less effective.

Each of us are different and maybe I'm a bit overly optimistic, but I think I can do two in a window. Time will tell...

I really appreciate all the insight from those of you who are going/been through this.

Everyone studies differently but I suggest have a shorter study window. I did my best when I had 3 weeks to study and a 20 chapter gliem book to read. When I gave myself a longer window I wouldnt be as focused. Plus stuff stays fresher in your mind after 3 weeks than 6 weeks.

I am also studying for AUD for July 25th. I was planning on studying for BEC to sit for August 31st but I realized that I am pushing it. I work full time and I am a single parent. However what I did decide was to sit for the BEC first week of October. I rather study and practice then feel rushed. I am worried if I rush then I will extend the life of this exam in my own life.LOL.

My advice on study materials:

1.) Find where your method of studying matches with the many review materials out there. All of the programs work for someone, but they all aren't the best for you.

2.) Don't buy all 4 sections at once. That way you won't feel guilty for buying all 4 if you find out after part 1 that it's really not the best for you.

3.) Ultimately, YOU are the one that will pass the exam, not your review material. No review material substitutes for hard work and perserverance. However, some materials will be better suited to support you in your journey than others.

I suppose you could always mess with the inquirer:

1) "Oh I don't want to make you jealous and cry. Laters!"
2) "I'm a score virgin. Not ready to give it up until I've found the one!"
3) "Really awesome, thanks for asking. Bye!"
4) "I did great, thanks for asking. Now I'm moving on. So I gotta jet!"

Or just keep hitting the ignore button, by smiling and walking away. It kills 'em when you refuse to acknowledge or validate the actions of rude, childish people.

kandisjoy

You did a good job explaining your study method! I spent $15,000 on review materials and the exams. However, I did not buy ExamMatrix.

This is how I divided my study materials, based on their strengths:

Best Lectures: Yaeger for FAR, BEC and REG and Lambers for AUD

Best Explanations for Wiley Questions: Yaeger for FAR, BEC, REG and AUD

Best Organized Material: Becker

Best Mneumonics for Memorization: Becker

Best Detailed Book: Wiley

Best "Cliff Notes:" Becker Book

Best Help for Difficult Topics (bonds, etc.) Bob Monette with Bisk Hot Spots

Best Organized Questions for Weak Areas: Gleim

Best Flash Cards: Kaplan

This is how I mixed and matched the above for each exam:

FAR: Yaeger and Becker

REG: Yaeger and Bob Monette's Bisk Hot Spots for taxes

BEC: Yaeger and Kaplan's flash cards for IT

AUD: Becker, Lambers lectures by Garland and Gleim for weak areas in AUD

Depending on the exam and your needs, mix and match. I did not have Jeff's notes available for my exams, but I certainly would have bought his notes.
