Well that was AWFUL! There was one concept they kept hammering over and over again in the MCQ's and then it showed up on two sims. I had a vague understanding, but certainly not enough to feel comfortable. There were items I knew inside and out and there was zip on there.

Oh well, probably spend 1/2 to hour each night to stay fresh in case I get bad news in a few weeks. What a horrible feeling.

I also felt awful with my REG SIMS and some of the MCQs seemed way out of left field. But I guess the scale worked in my favor. My best advice is to work through the first 3 testlets as quickly as possible and leave as much time as possible for SIMS. I spent almost 2 hours on the SIMS alone and never took any breaks. I'm not sure how people finish their exams if they take bathroom breaks because I've taken 3 straight through and used every minute of my time for them.

The sims were pretty similar, but some different. One contained a tax issue but you needed to know the financial treatment to get the answer.

Overall, I think the combination of Becker and Wiley prepared me pretty well. There are only 40 total Wiley sims. So, it didn't take that long to do them.

I'm back. I counted my questions and averaged them to see how I did. (I realize this is not how it is scored, but I need to make sense of it and it worked on my audit exam). I counted any I guessed at as being wrong, including the entire sim I wasn't sure about. Giving each sim and multiple choice I felt comfortable with a value of 1 and any I guessed at 0, gives me an average of 73%.

The first testlet was unbelievable. I marked 11 and upon going back through was able to figure out 2 of them. This left 9 that I guessed between 2 answers or just honestly didn't know. Some I would have to actually be a tax preparer to know. Maybe I needed to read the Becker book cover to cover? Probably not, I don't think many of those were covered. It was really tough.

The next two testlets were equally as hard, but I knew the topics. I didn't mark too many of the next two.

The sims were fine. I marked one of them, which contained a term that was not used in Becker. I looked it up and think I got the meaning. I used my best judgement and filled in the form.

I'm guessing I did not miss all the ones I marked and that I got some points on the sim that I wasn't sure of. So, I probably passed. It will be close. That first testlet still has me reeling. What the heck?

Hopefully hubby will be agreeable to going for a drink in a bit. I need one.

REG was today. Glad it's over. All the testlets seemed medium/medium-hard. The sims actually didn't seem that bad. I've already convinced myself that I failed it based off of the types of questions I kept getting. I had a half hour left.

I didn't feel that the REG simulations were extremely difficult; rather I had an issue with the fact that they seemed to cover relatively unimportant topics that (in my opinion) wouldn't have been representative of your knowledge base. Given that they are the last thing that you see before leaving the exam, they are more prone to remain in your memory and you leave feeling like you were blindsided by a truck.

I left Prometric feeling awful due to the REG simulations to the extent that I was literally depressed for the remainder of the day and into the weekend (I think I posted several times on this forum regarding my opinion of REG and my chances of passing). It wasn't until after a few days passed that I started to realize that I knew most of them and probably didn't fare as poorly as I initially thought and in fact, ended up doing okay.

If posts by others can serve as a guideline and lift your spirits a little, you can probably come to the conclusion that the vast majority of candidates come out of REG with a negative feeling of the simulations... some end up passing with quite a margin of safety, others just get by, and others bomb it... anyway, just because you feel poorly regarding them doesn't necessarily represent your actual performance.

@Anna, I agree Wiley SIMs are hard and the problem is you never know what they are gonna test you! All you can do , try your best & get it over ! I also hated corporate taxation & law sections. I was sick of studying reg for 2 months, unfortunately It was not enough or maybe I did not prepare well. Now I m on BEC and it seems little bit easy ( I could be wrong)

I took the REG on 22nd. I felt all testlets were hard and the SIMS were brutal. I practiced so many SIMs in Wiley & CPAEXCEL however I had not seen any similar SIM. I would say MCQ were somewhat ok, I had to guess many MCQ. Two more days i will find out how well I did but I m sure I failed :(

@SeattleAccountant Hopefully that's the case in my situation as well! I will be one happy camper if I never have to open that dreaded regulation book again.

In regards to your question, I am using Becker as my primary review course. However, I did order Jeff's Ninja Audio notes for REG and found them to be a great supplement. In fact, I listened to them a final time this afternoon, while on the way to my testing center and ended up getting a question on a random subject he had talked about.

Also, I feel like Becker has done a good job exposing me to the most heavily tested subjects. With that being said, I got a good number of random questions from outer space and just had to take educated guesses (this was especially true on the simulations). I'm sure Becker mentioned these subjects somewhere, but I certainly don't remember.

@dmficco, No kidding, sorry to hear about your experience, but there is great chance that you've passed. Just read around this forum of how folks felt after taking the test and then see passing in their sig.

bwt, what review did you use and did you find that the exam was very unlike the review or it was just difficult overall?

Just took REG this afternoon (5/19/2013) and it was horrible. I felt like most of the MCQs were quite difficult, with the 2nd and 3rd testlets containing very wordy and lengthy questions. I can't say with certainty that my testlets got more difficult, but felt they did. The SIMS, however, were brutal. I only had one research question and the remaining five were extremely lengthy and complex. I had roughly 1 hour and 30 min left to complete the SIMS and used every minute of it. I found that due to the length and complexity of each simulation, no time was available to use the research tab to solidify my answers.

Overall, I feel beaten and broken. This exam really threw me a curveball... especially the simulations (I'm still in shock). Now the waiting game begins; not sure how this one will turn out and whether or not I should begin revisiting REG material or start studying for FAR. Sometimes I wonder what I have gotten myself into :(

Dunno how to judge the difficulty. I guess it was medium throughout. The sims weren't horrible, but I had to do some guessing, especially on one. Found the research question in like 3 seconds, lol.

Last exam - really hope I passed.

All three MCQ testlets felt equally hard. But then again, I was never really able to tell much of a difference on the other exams either. I can say this, the MCQ felt very different from my study materials. They weren't complex calculations like I was expecting. More like theory type questions which seemed almost foreign to me.

Research question was easy. Three of the other Sims felt pretty easy and I was able to do a lot of research in the IRC tab. One Sim was over material I was familiar with, but with curve balls that I wasn't prepared for. One Sim required me to guess for every single entry.

I'm not feeling good right now. Things I specifically spent extra time on the last few days didn't even seem to be tested. It's going to be a long wait. The only positive things I can tell myself right now are that I know I put just as much review time in for this one as the others, and that at least I don't have to come home and start studying another section before knowing whether or not I passed.

Just thought I'd share my REG experience.

I've never posted on this forum before but was just dying to tell my experience of my last CPA paper.

I studied for the exam solely from Becker. Solved all the mcqs and sims (for tax), and listened to the lectures and solved as many mcqs as I could for the business law modules.

I must say that really paid off. I was able to breeze through the first mcq testlet. But when I got my second testlet things started to get a little tricky, the tax mcqs were the ones on the harder side in the Becker review questions, and a few B.Law questions I didn't really know about (I just whizzed through the last two business law chapters of Becker during my review). However the third testlet was the bomb (in a bad way). I got only the hardest tax questions, and a lot more business law questions than I anticipated. One thing I noticed on the exam was that there were a quite a few CPA legal liability questions which weren't covered in the Becker material. The other business law questions that I got on the third testlet required you to know the portion well and apply them to slightly analytical questions. So I was a little disappointed that there was so many business law topics covered, when the CSO states that it makes up only 19 - 21% of the total
tested content.

After completing the third testlet I really thought I was a goner....But what really brought my hopes up were the sims. Contrary to what I've read on this forum the sims were actually quite easy. If you've studied from Becker, the sims on the exam were almost identical. And none of them were lengthy or required tremendous amounts of calculations. They were more or less like the easier tax simulations on the Becker cd. And none of the business law topics were tested on the simulations.

After completing the sims I clicked on the exam exit button feeling quite confident of passing.

So to all those taking the REG exam don't feel too daunted by the beast(metaphor). Learn the tax concepts and rules well, and don't neglect business law and you should be good to go.

The results come out in two weeks for me, and I must say this time I'm a lot more anxious of the results coming out, considering it's my last exam and feel confident of passing mainly because of the sims, hence a greater need for the actual results to come out to validate my semi-well found confidence.

I had walked into the testing center this morning feeling confident, and left feeling so brutal.
MCQs were not too bad overall, All three testlets were at medium level of difficulty and wordier. A few questions were surprising and not anywhere discussed in Becker.

The SIMS were awful! One hour for SIMS was not enough, as I ran out of time in the end. Make sure that you allocate at least 1.5 hours for SIMS. The SIMS were long, complex, with many unfamiliar areas that were hardly mentioned in Becker. What makes REG hard (compared to the other 3 sections) is either you know the tax treatment of a specific issue or you don't. You can't really guess or use business common sense to determine how to treat the issue. My only regret is that I didn't allocate enough time for SIMS. Had I have enough time to use Literature Research, I might be able to find the answer for the unfamiliar SIMS questions. The combination of time shortage and unfamiliar topic is just deadly.

If I fail, I know it's partly due to the tax prep review course. I will consider supplementing with other review course.

First testlet, was ok i had about 4-5 i was unsure about. second testlet was really wordy, I wouldn't say harder necessarily, just wordy and tricky, had about 5-7 I was unsure about and 2-3 i was like really? are you kidding me! One i so wish i could share because it was so tricky and I cant even seem to look up the answer!! Third testlet was about the same as the first but wordier but not as bad as the second testlet.

SIMs, honestly I was expecting worse from the horror stories i have heard lately. However they were still really hard! 1 SIM was so off from anything i have seen before it better have been my pretest, then again i had another one that was so complicated i could swear it was pretest...the other 4 were hard but not impossible.

Here is to hoping we all see passing scores soon!

10 days till my test and I am officially panicking! I never felt so nervous with the 2 sections I took.
I am struggling with Business Law because it's so darn tricky!

Can somebody help me decipher this question. It feels like Becker's answer is conflicting with its own textbook but I could be the one who's not understanding the material. Ok, so here we go.

CPA-10396
Link Corp is subject to reporting provisions of the SEC Act of 1934. Which of the following reports must be submitted to the SEC?
Choice A. Report by any party making a tender offer to purchase Link's stock
Choice B. Report of proxy solicitation by Link stockholders.

The answer: is both A & B

My confusion is as follows:
with Choice A - Per Becker's textbook pg R7-48 "A tender offer is an offer to all shareholders to purchase stock for a specific price for a specified period of time. Any party making a tender offer to purchase 5% or MORE of the shares ...must file a report with the SEC, issuer, and the Exchange."

It specifically states 5% or more, not any tender offer. Am I not right?

With Choice B - Since when proxy solicitation report is provided by the shareholders? My understanding is that the Proxy solicitation is sent to the SEC by the entity seeking solicitation. Proxy statements are sent to all shareholders and the SEC (along with the Proxy solicitation).

*sigh* I am trying hard not to panic, but business law is so tricky because of the subtle nuances around the law and how it should be applied. Can somebody be kind enough to shed some light on this question.

Good luck to those who are waiting for the score.

This is my first time posting.

Just got out of REG for my second attempt. Overall my MCs were very fair.

Testlet #1 = Medium (About 40% Calculations / 60% Conceptual)
Testlet #2 = Medium / Difficult (About 70% Calculations / 30% Conceptual)
Testlet #3 = Medium / Difficult (50% Calculations / 50% Conceptual)

SIM #1 = Very very similar to Becker with some wording changes (Drop Down Choices)
SIM #2 = Had to guess (Calculations, not discussed in Becker, but touched upon with a few examples from Wiley)
SIM #3 = Research = Doable (took me 7 minutes?)
SIM #4 = Some guess work (Drop Down Choices)
SIM #5 = Very Doable Topic (Simple Calculations)
SIM #6 = From the left field question; never was discussed in great detail in Wiley or Becker but very very doable via common sense. (Calculation)

I must say, I spent 93 minutes on MCs and used the entire time for SIMS down to the last 30 seconds. I hope I pass because compare to my first attempt (all the sims were from the left), this time around I had the luck of the draw. The Authoritative Literature helped out greatly for the SIMS.

Overall, I think I may squeek by with a 75. Unfortunately, the test didn't have the items I was overly familar with but for the most part, I think my review material covered everything (Yaeger home study w/Wiley test bank, Gleim final exam & SIMS). In fact, I strongly recommend for others to try this combination as I felt there were questions that were super close to the mc questions offered by these study materials. I may spend the extra $ for the next part and purchase the full Gleim package because the SIMS were sooo close to the real thing.

The first testlet was relatively easy, I kicked myself in the butt for not remembering some of the answers but oh well, it is what it is. The second testlet got harder and the third testlet was slightly easier than the second (or maybe I knew those particular topics better). I would say I had ________. I agree with previous posts that state the SIMS were brutal. Again, the SIMS I was exposed to were not my strongest areas but even so, I thought some of the details I needed to know were ridulous. I just don't see a professional in practice being able to remember minute items without researching literature. But, I knew enough about the topics that I may have been able to get by. This will probably sound funny but I struggled with the Research Question! The one part that I thought would be a freebie uggh. I did a few research questions before the actual exam and thought they were so easy that I didn't bother with them again. However, the darn exam got me on the one place I had banked on having automatic points. Needless to say, please be swift with complex Research items so you can claim these points. Also, be pretty familiar with Authoritative Research. I finished the exam with 10 min to spare but couldn't find what I needed in Authoritative Research. Maybe if I was more familiar with this tool, I could have better verified my answers.

I studied about 1-2 months, 30-40 hours a week. The last two weeks I would take 3 hr practice tests on a regular basis which I strongly recommend to others. It truly helped with alloting time for the real thing. I also think I'll invest in premade flashcards moving forward. I made my own which was time consuming and didn't make them for everything. During my final review, I wish I had some 'quick' cards to reference for the stuff I needed a refresher on from studying early on.

Finally, I told myself on the way to the exam that my soul and drive was greater than my feelings and thoughts. I can't stop self-defeating thoughts from entering my mind but I can ignore them and remember why I chose this path. This helped me tremendously as I had felt major frustration during my study process from not remembering items, info overload, etc. There were days where I wanted to quit, where I didn't feel smart enough to remember all this crap, but at some point, you have to make a decision not to be defeated. As I left Prometic, I was at peace with giving it my best shot and grateful for the opportunity and journey. Pass or fail, leave with your head held high as you know you're character just became stronger for showing up and giving the greatest effort possible.

just got out of REG for the first time today...the MC were not too bad and I noticed a few questions were exactly the same as wiley books. Kinda surprised about that since I didn't see any when I took FAR & AUD. But MAN, sims were killing me!! I had two very long problems and I remember Phil Yaeger said that if you see a really long sim, it's very likely that it was just one of those duds...Now I really wish he was correct because I definitely did not do so well in SIMS

Just got back from REG.

I'll remain hopeful but I think I'm going to need a miracle on this one. I feel quite a bit worse than I did leaving BEC. There were several questions that I didn't recognize that you either knew them or you didn't; not much narrowing down to do as far as I could tell. And, sadly, I didn't know them. I could restudy for another two months and I still don't think I would have gotten them. I'll hope some of them were pretest.

Others, where I felt really good about the topic going in, always seemed to contain one strange fact or verbiage that gave me pause. On those, I tried to narrow it down and then took my best guess.

I can never tell but it seemed like the 3rd testlet was easier than the first two which would be another bad sign.

The SIMS were challenging as others have experienced. I tried to use the AL where I could but I think train-wreck would be an accurate description of my performance there. lol

It will be a long wait for the score as others taking now can relate to. I'm going to take a week off and then I'll have 9 weeks to study for FAR. If I fail, I'll have to reconsider my options. I think I put in as much effort as I could for this test so I'm not sure what I will have to change. I'll cross that bridge if/when I get to it and just hope for a generous grading of this one.

GL to those studying and sitting and I'll see some of you in the next FAR study group.

I re-took Regulations today. I didn't any far out questions oranything that terribly confused me. My Testlet didn't seem to get harder or easier. Not sure if that's good or not. I only got one research question. I knew how to work 2 of the other five and the others I think I let some things trip me up....I just realized that I will have to wait a month before I receive my grade so I think I will move on and start studying for FAR this weekend.

bwt, I'm secretly hoping for two easy research questions, wouldn't be great?!
