My boss used to razz me because when he took the exam it was all 4 parts in 2 days with no calculator or authoritative literature etc. He'd say that they're coddling us youngsters. Realizing of course that he wasn't being mean, but rather teasing me as a future colleague, I just laughed it off and reminded him that the pass rates are lower today than they were back when the exam was administered with stone tablets and chisels. Eventually I got tired of it, so I brought in my study books and asked if he'd like to put his money where his mouth is and retake the exam. He obviously declined, and the teasing stopped.

@Jzjac, thanks for explaining them one by one, despite you laughing at me. LOL

I thought true deviation rate is a "secret" that auditor has not uncovered until he realizes its existence later in his audit work. Just kidding. I know I am being silly. Auditing is nuts so am I.

True Deviation = The actual deviation rate of the full population.

It is not the tolerable deviation rate because the tolerable rate of deviation is what the auditor will tolerate until he/she has to change the assessed level of risk.

It is not the expected deviation rate because that is the rate of deviation that the auditor expects lol

And upper deviation rate is the [actual sample deviation rate of the sample+ allowance for sampling risk]

This question caused my brain to spin too that led me to this link while searching for a clearer explanation of what really deviation rate means.

What does TRUE DEVIATION RATE mean?

Is true deviation rate = upper deviation rate?

Is true deviation rate = tolerable deviation rate?

Is true deviation rate = expected deviation rate?

First. Love this thread.
Second: just recently someone asked me how the last part went. I said I failed by one point. His response was oh you're just joking. Pretty sure its not a laughing matter. Then he suggested I go talk to "them" and see if I can make up that one point. Pretty sure it doesn't work like that. :)

I finally received my license in the mail yesterday (I received the certificate in December). I texted my family and they all texted back nice things. Then I was telling a close friend on the phone that my license finally arrived and she said "that sure was a lot of work for a piece of paper." Is that supposed to be a joke?

I'm sure we've all had this:

Current CPA that is older: You dont know how good you have it, we used to have to take them all at once

I hate when people say that. Yes, it would suck, but I'm pretty sure they didnt have international and the test is probably intentionally made more difficult by the AICPA to account for "how good we have it".

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one going through this. I've been told that I don't need the CPA is a waste of money and time. All I need is experience. Then I go on job sites to only confirm that they are wrong to say that. I just try my best to block people like this and think positively. One thing I've learn about what appears like an never ending journey, is that obtaining the CPA much more than passing four test. It's so much more than that. It test your patience, your confidence, your persistence, etc... I wish everyone on this journey the best of luck. We will prevail!!!!

I thought this was very basic concept when I was reviewing Becker and got all the questions correct in passmaster, however having hard time with it in Wiley. For example, the question below makes no sense to me...can anyone explain?

Chicago Corp., a calendar-year C corporation, had accumulated earnings and profits of $100,000 as of January 1, 2010, and had a deficit in its current earnings and profits for the entire 2010 tax year in the amount of $140,000. Chicago Corp. distributed $30,000 cash to its shareholders on December 31, 2010. What would be the balance of Chicago Corp.'s accumulated earnings and profits as of January 1, 2011?

A. $0
B. $(30,000)
C. $(40,000)
D. $(70,000)

C is the correct answer.

Thanks!

Since accumulated is (+) and current is (-) you can net the two, giving you -40K, and you would have to net the two anyways to get accumulated earnings for 2011. Any calculations beyond that are unnecessary, and since a deficit still exists after netting current and accumulated E&P this would lead to a tax-free recovery of basis and any excess amount would be treated as a capital gain.

I was having lunch with someone after taking my Audit exam and I told her that I was afraid I might not pass.

She responded,"Can't you talk to your teacher about it?"
