Took FAR yesterday and it was brutal. No joke, I would say 60% of my mcq were IFRS as well as 2 of the sims. They were not the simple no extraordinary gains or no completed contract completed kind either. I must have gotten a bad pool of questions. Needless to say I am a little pist. Oddly I received quite a bit on segment reporting but somehow only 1 had to do the with 10% rules. Adding to the mess were 2 questions + a sim involving escrow accounts that I have never come across before in my review material or mcq. If it was meant to throw me off, it sure did its job. June 8th can't come fast enough (California)

I took my first section of the cpa exam yesterday afternoon FAR, i had been studying on and off since the beginning of February using Yeager CPA, ninja notes, audio nd also Becker 2012 towards the end. Ok now to the actual exam, i am almost certain I bombed this exam with like a 50 or 60, the first testlet my nerves were on a trillion percent and i couldnt remember simple rules for consolidation CARINBIG and IFRS research and development rules vs GAAP. i know i bombed testlet 1 and the other testlets never seems to get more wordy or noticeably difficult so by the time i got to testlet 3 i knew i failed and was already defeated. The SIMS were not to difficult as i thought probably because i was failing and got easier SIMS, the authoritative literature helped quite a bit. Overall, i think the exam is very doable when diligently prepared and questions are similiar to Becker and Wiley TBS question, anyway im getting ready for rematch with FAR next window with this experience under my belt.

P.S I love Another71 been visiting this website alot since i discovered it, maybe even a little too much and cutting into my studytime lol, great job Mr. Elliot on the ninja products and site overall.

I'm taking FAR 5/28 and my Becker practice scores are in the low 60s. I'm planning on doing through all of them a second time (probably another 80 hrs of work). I'm freaking out. Anyone experience this and wind up passing? So ready to be done!

Just got back from FAR... I feel neutral, which is an improvement from my first FAR exam. (That time I walked out feeling like I bombed it, got a 71.)

This is my last exam, so I really hope I never have to go back to a Prometric site again. On my way out, the proctor who was checking me out said "You're a free woman, have a good night" - I hope that was some sort of sign ;-)

Now looking forward to the 7th row Cubs tickets I bought for myself/my sister to tomorrow's game - that'll take my mind off the exam for awhile.

Come on June 10th!!

Took FAR in January, 2013 and by some unfathomable miracle passed with an 81.

I felt lost during the exam. Could not get anywhere with the research question. There were two SIMs I felt good about, the rest - not good to devastated.

The MCQs - some okay, many I had no clue. I was not well-prepared for IFRS.

When in doubt, as everyone says, make your best guess and move on. Quickly. Don't leave SIM questions unanswered. On one SIM that required you to put in calculated numbers, when I had no idea I put 0. (This was not totally random but pretty darn close.)

The AICPA says they do not curve the grades but this is hard to believe, particularly with FAR.

Best of luck to all still going through it! The feeling of relief when I got my FAR grade, which was the final test for me, was indescribable.

BEC: 75
REG: 80
AUD: 77
FAR: 81
Stupid CA ethics exam: 84, 92

Finally a licensed CA CPA!

For anyone taking this exam...if you blow something off...it WILL be on your exam. There was ONE section in my Becker book that I did not get to...and it was one of my simulations...and there was nothing in the code to help me out. So bummed. Keeping my fingers crossed though.

Just took FAR and couldn't guess the odds I passed/failed. It did expose 1 or 2 weaknesses in the MCQ, but I was pleasantly surprised by the manageability of the SIMS. Unfortunately, this is eerily reminiscent of when I scored 74 on Audit. If I have to take it again in JUL-AUG, I'll nail it! I think this will be one of the shortest waits for a score ever, but it is going to drag on!

Alright, back from my THIRD go with FAR.

I feel more confident than my other two times, but that could very well be because the questions were easier and I felt they were less across the board.

Last time I definitely knew I failed, the testlets went from medium to easy to reaaallly easy. I was tested on a lot of the smaller concepts I didn't focus on. This time, they were a little harder, but still not the extremely difficult ones the passers speak of.

I ran out of time on the Sims and had to guess on one and a half. They were all pretty manageable for once, though one was computational and my answers kept coming out of be crazy like 133,568 and not 133,000 as I might expect. One was on a topic which was the very last item I meant to review in my car before going in but ran out of time. That was a bummer.

Overall, I would be overjoyed if I end up passing, but I don't expect to. I do think I might be in the 70's though.

Now its just me, enchiladas, the couch and Arrested Development for the rest of the day. Until tomorrow, when I cram for REG.

Oh, and this was my first 8 a.m. exam. The only perk is that Prometric was relatively empty. I was so tired, then soooo caffeinated and weirdly nervous (I stopped getting nervous after my first round)

OH and while I was in my exam, my brother proposed to his girlfriend so hopefully that was send good luck!

Took FAR on April 11... When I walked out of REG I would've been surprised if I failed... After BEC I wouldn't have been surprised if I passed or if I failed (ran out of time on the last SIM)... and after FAR I'm trying to figure out how I can fit retaking it into my schedule... Basically feel like I was hit by a truck at full speed...

First MCQ- Medium (but so easy)... Finished in 19 minutes, didn't flag a thing.
Second MCQ- HARD... SO HARD... BAD... took almost an hour and didn't even know what some questions were asking me.
Last MCQ- Way easy compared to the second but definitely still more difficult than the first... Finished in 25 minutes, flagged 2.

SIMS: Wow... Just, wow... Found the Auth Lit within seconds, but then it went down hill from there... Knew 1 journal entry SIM solid, more than half on 2 others and then about half on the other 3... a lot of guessing. Finished with an hour to spare so went back and checked the Auth Lit for everything... couldn't find some, caught mistakes on others... and since there's no lit for IFRS I was out of luck on some stuff too. Totally up in the air... hopefully did well enough to make up for my evidently embarrassing performance on MCQ 2.

Now studying for AUD and laughed out loud in A6 when Becker said you can have your license revoked for insanity... pretty sure that studying for these exams is driving me insane...

CROSSING MY FINGERS FOR TOMORROW!!!!!

Just took FAR today and I'm thinking that either I barely passed or barely failed. Here's my summary:

1st testlet - medium(~45 min) - I didn't think it was too bad...On many of the questions I had to guess between 2 possible answers.
2nd testlet - medium(~55 min) - In terms of difficulty, I didn't notice the test getting "harder" per say from the 1st testlet, but there were more calculations I had to do compared to the 1st testlet which led me to spend more time on this section
3rd testlet - medium(~45 min) - same as 1st testlet
SIMS medium(~50 min) - There weren't any surprising questions that I hadn't learned, although they added a slight "twist" to the questions. It made me question whether or not those "twists" are distraction information.

Compared to becker, the actual exam questions are more simple worded compared to becker, but it didn't take away the difficulty of the test =/

Used becker + Wiley supplemental questions.

I took FAR yesterday and had a similar experience to the poster above. MC was a little bizarre in the sense that I had very few calculations and I even had a few duplicate questions unless that was just my mind playing tricks on me from mental exhaustion. Having taken REG, I expected the SIMS to be an adventure and they did not disappoint. The research question was fairly straight forward, but the remaining SIMs were obscure topics that required using knowledge of FAR materials.

I walked out of my first exam (REG) feeling defeated and hopeless to find out I passed a few weeks later. I felt pretty numb walking out of FAR. It is out of my hands now and I plan on trying to block out any FAR thoughts until the scores are released.

My advice to anyone taking the exam for the first time is to not beat yourself up after the exam. Nothing you do after the exam will change your answers or score. Just accept the fact that you did everything in your power (hopefully this is the case) and move on to your next section.

I took my first exam yesterday, FAR. I am a little perplexed by the whole thing.

1st testlet was fairly easy. 2nd and 3rd testlets were both similar with a mix of easy and medium questions. I ended up with 2 hours to spend on SIMS.

The SIMS were a nightmare. I think I got the research question right, but 5 of the SIMS I wasn't completely sure what they were asking me to do. I tried to use authoritative literature, but it wasn't much help. I would be shocked if I passed, and if I failed I'm pretty sure it is because of the set of SIMS I was given.

Had my first crack at FAR yesterday morning. Really not sure what to make of it so I'll just wait for my score. Some stuff was cake, other stuff was off the wall difficult.

The first testlet wasn't too bad. Not many calculations overall. I finished the testlet in 50 minutes, flagging 5.

Second testlet was incredibly more difficult. Extensive calculations, even the topics I knew well seemed foreign. Had a few topics that I had literally not seen in my review courses at all. I was laughing to myself at a few of them because of how out of left field they were. Flagged 8 here and took a little over 60 minutes to work through.

Third testlet wasn't as bad as 2, but still harder than 1. Lots of calculations here as well but they seemed to go smoother for me. I recall only flagging 3 questions. Finished this testlet in 40 minutes, leaving me an hour and a half for the sims.

Checked all my SIM topics immediately. Overall I knew the topics pretty well. The research SIM was fine. I know I nailed 3.5 of the other SIMs. Shaky on 1.5. And then 1 SIM where I knew the topic well but the application was very strange and I don't think I did it right, which is too bad because it could have been worded much better and I'd have been fine. Used my entire 90 minutes and consulted the authoritative literature as much as I could.

Overall, not sure what to think. Won't really bother dwelling on it now; on to REG while I wait for my score.

I'll also say that the CSO isn't kidding in it's outline of 16%-24% government/NFP.

Study prep:
207 hours of physical studying. Becker self-study, Becker flashcards, Wiley review book, hand-made flashcards, NINJA notes, and a healthy dose of the Another71 podcast to keep me focused. Completed all Becker MCQs twice, completed all Wiley MCQs at least once. Finished over 50% of the practice sims on Becker and Wiley.

Good luck all!

So I took FAR today and after REG I stopped feeling anything after exams, so I don't feel defeated but I'm also not jumping for joy. I'll just wait for the results.

My exam was doable except that I got a bunch of questions from the one area in the whole FAR course that never clicked no matter how many lectures or questions I did. Anyway, I guess the testlets kept getting harder cause they were definitely taking me longer to do. I got into the sims with almost 2 hrs on the clock and it took me that long to be done. This was mostly because after I had done the sims I used the authoritative literature to verify my answers, which seemed for the most part to be correct.

I wished that all of my questions were computations because that's where my strength is but then 4hrs would not be long enough. I flagged 6 MCQs in my first testlet and about the same in the others, which were mostly conceptual questions. I can't complain about my SIMS, I am sure I can guess which was the pre-test.

I took far earlier today and I feel pretty defeated...

First testlet was almost insultingly easy--I breezed through it in about 25 minutes. The second testlet was a whole different story and seems to be where my downfall began. Every question was long, extensive, and required several computations. I struggled to get through all of them and straight up guessed on a few because I didn't think it would be worth it to keep trying and wasting time on problems I just couldn't figure out. I definitely bombed the second testlet because my third one wasn't as bad--not as easy as the first but definitely not as hard as round 2. I originally wanted to save at least 1.5 hours for the SIMS but ended up only having about 1.15. The sims to my surprise were not bad at all and I had just enough time to finish all of them. All pretty simple and nothing that crazy. I'm 200% sure I didn't pass but according to this forum it seems like anything is possible. REALLY not looking forward to studying for this again....

I just got home from FAR for the "blankth" time. The first testlet was okay. The second and third were much more wordy. I hate when I see four or five lines of text in the question. I actually finished the simulations this time. Two of which were research. One research was pretty hard though.

One thing I will say: Whatever your study materials may be, layer them with Wiley Test Bank. Just do it. I mean as many mcq you can. I'm talking at least 2000. Do as many practice sims as possible too. Don't shine them on. You'll be glad you did when you get to the actual exam.

I don't know how I did, but if I pass, I'm doing the same with the next sections.

1st testlet: Medium
2nd testlet: Medium
3rd testlet: Easy

Per my other thread, I got two research simulations (which I know I answered both correctly). I'm feeling about 50% confident in my results. Either way, it doesn't matter what is medium, hard, or easy. It boils down to one thing: this test is doable. If I don't pass this time, I will definitely get it the second time around. There was nothing on this exam that I had not seen before (I use Becker and NINJA Notes and Audio). Keep at it everyone!

I took FAR on April 5th, it was my first attempt at the CPA exam, for any section. I felt VERY prepared up until the morning of my exam when I woke up and felt like my mind just went blank.

Besides the physical headache I got from thinking through the questions, I am pretty confident with the multiple choice. I flagged 3 on the first testlet and maybe 5-6 on the other two.

The simulations were a completely different story. I opened them up hoping to find one tab that I could knock out and get done, but the only ones that I knew were the research questions. The other tabs, in my mind, were completely from another planet! the combination of the stress of not knowing how to do the sims, and the headache almost caused my eyes to well up, which is not like me at all!

After the exam, I just sat in my car for about a half hour trying to remember how to drive because I literally felt as if all information in my brain had somehow been erased. I studied for 3 months straight, so here's to hoping for a passing grade, and now time for Audit!! Good luck to everyone!
