Do they do it? Yes. I thought it was common knowledge that it's basically a percentile comparing you to the other people taking the exam. They only allow a certain amount of people in each time, you basically are competing with everyone else taking the exam for those spots they are willing to give up. I think if the whole group does extremely well, they probably let in a higher amount than average and vice versa. This is my first post…though I’ve been stalking this forum for awhile now haha</p> <p>For those who did not pass this time around, I just want to say DON’T give up! The first time I took the exam in 2008 I passed BEC and failed REG. I completely gave up until 2010 came around and I decided to take all four parts. Sadly, I FAILED all of them. More recently and in 2011, I quit my job so I could study full time and just knock out the CPA. </p> <p>Now that I’ve passed three parts I’ve learned a lot from my mistakes and thought maybe the following might help those that are struggling (sorry, if these seem obvious):<br /> 1.If financially possible, consider studying full-time or take a leave of absence to focus on your studies. I saw huge increase in scores from the time I was working and the time I quit (+15 pts for AUD, +17 pts for BEC, and +31 pts for FAR)<br /> 2. Reread your books and redo the problems - As painful as it is, it helps tremendously when you see the material more than once.<br /> 3. Take chapter notes and make flashcards for the most important topics - I used these for cramming and quick reviews especially after each chapter and the day before the exam.<br /> 4. Get away from distractions (I moved away…but it also helps to shut down facebook and go out less with friends).<br /> 5. Never give up – my biggest regret is wasting so much time and having to retake BEC twice!</p> <p>@Hustlin – keep your head up! I half-a$$ FAR the first time and got a 58… then I really gave it my all and passed this testing window. I used Roger Phillips, though I’m not sure if I would recommend it. </p>
