I am doing the questions for BEC 3 with becker right now and i swear i feel like the biggest idiot ever. none of these questions are making sense and when i look at the answer i wonder how they figured that out.

has anybody else had this issue as well? and if so, how did you get around it and overcome this problem?

south0085-
sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Looks like you got your questions answered though. As for memorizing the formula, personally I try to write down the formula when I do each questions. You'll have the formulas memorized before you know and w/o much pain. You can do this!!

I've found that of the people I know taking BEC using only Becker, generally speaking the people that did the best were smarter people that I know. It seemed like on average they passed more frequently.

connieCPAin2010 - Thank you for the advice. Writing the formulas down is a great idea! I print off questions that I have trouble with and keep them in my car. That way, while I driving, I can go through those questions in my head. Wow, I just realized how dangerous that is. ha.

south0085 - If you get a good grasp on the basic formulas, you will be able to work any of the problems. If you need to, make a sheet listing all the formulas, study it and then refer to it if you need to as you are working problems. It will help you to understand the formula which is key. I also take my own notes while I'm reading the chapter. It helps me to remember things and I read over them often as I progress through the other chapters.

Sure. I did write a really long post somewhere in here after I got my score (probably around page 100 or so). Although it takes forever (at least for me) to read through the notes, I think it's really important as the lectures sometimes skip some material or details. Good luck!

bakagal - So helpful. Thank you. I am a very determined studier and I do exactly what Becker says to do. I do every multiple choice question and I try to make sure I'm learning the concept and not just memorizing the question. (that's difficult though). I agree, some of the lectures are not extremely helpful, but I still try to watch them. One thing I don't do however, is read the notes. I can't believe I'm not doing that. I will start doing that tonight. Thanks again!

south0085,

It's definitely possible to pass using only Becker. I took BEC on 2/23 after using only Becker for almost 5 weeks and I got a 92. And I barely glanced at the IT addendum........

If you have already paid for Becker, I wouldn't bother using other study materials if you do exactly what Becker recommends- read the notes and do the problems. I myself did not find the lectures absolutely necessary and only watched the parts where I was unclear about. Main thing is, understand why you got questions wrong!! Use the lookup function a lot ( where Becker finds the page/section where the topic is discussed) and reread/skim the sections that you aren't doing well on.

connieCPAin2010 - Thank you! I will look that addendum up and I will be sure to know all the formulas. Did you memorize the formulas? Or just get to where you could answer any multiple choice questions with ease? (without memorizing the question)

south0085 - I passed BEC in January using only Becker. The IT addedum can be found on the Becker website under updates. I read over it once - it is a ton of information, but you may pick up a point or two from it. I also recommend knowing your formulas from Ch. 3 & 5 - know 'em inside and out! Good Luck!

karojane - What is the addendum? Where do I find that at? I feel like I can pass BEC using only Becker as well. A lot of people say I need to supplement, but I paid big money for Becker for a reason. They are supposed to be the best. And I've had a few friends that say it can be passed with Becker only because they have done it themselves.

I just got a 91 only using becker for BEC. If you do what they say to study and do all the questions. You should be able to pass. There is that addendum online as well. Go over that at least one time. There are some MCs that are posted to go with it as well. Do them to reiterate the info. You can do this!

hopeful_cpa:

I know at least four people who passed BEC using just Becker.

Many important concepts are explained in terms of tables. Try to understand the approach used to prepare these "tables", and work out the problems and then go over the related multiple choice problems. Also, I found that financial management is very well explained in Becker, but again, read the chapter, carefully go over all the examples, and do all the multiple choices.

Also, preparing a list of the most important formulas is extremely helpful. Print this list and keep a copy at work and at home. Review these whenever you have a free minute or two, but not when driving.

Becker has also a free handout for information technology. It is helpful to read these pages twice, once while you preparing for the exam, and once during the last day before your exam. If you are Becker student, you probably know what I am talking about. Also, read all the pages on information technology in Becker few times.

Another piece of advice. Becker AUD textbook has a chapter on information technology methods used in audit. Study this chapter also, go over the examples, and do all the multiple choice questions.

Yandra have you tried cpareviewforfree.com? The questions are pretty good and a good change up from other test prep software. It's completely free and very accessible. I use it practically all day at work to study a question here or two from there when I'm just waiting for crap to post or load or if I'm sign off approvals and stuff. Just think about how much time people waste on a forum or checking e-mail at work and put that into that site and you'll probably get a ton done that way. I usually get about 20-40 questions done from that site a day just from getting questions here and there plus lunch break. I take my time understanding his answers and his explainations are very good. I just e-mail him if the explaination doesn't make sense and he is pretty quick to respond. The highest % of correct answers I've ever gotten using his mini-exams was 85%. The questions are pretty tough IMO.

I jumped 9 points on my REG section using them and passed BEC my first time thanks to their explainations on the cost accounting and CAPM model.

For formulas. Knowing that any formula that says over or to means a division formula e.g. debt to equity = debt/equity helps a bunch.

Yandra, don't give up.
What I did for BEC is to write all the formulas on a piece of paper and I brought it with me all the time.

Yandra, you've got the right attitude. Hang in there and keep working hard, you'll pass it! Is there a particular part of BEC that you feel weak in? What study plan have you followed in the past?
