Hi I am really frustrated at this point, I've been getting no more than 70 on the homework(first try), it seems that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't pass the 70 mark. As far as the simulation goes, I am getting about 40-50% on the first try. I am just really worried that I won't be able to pass my FAR exam coming up on April 9th. Some of the Becker homework questions were really loooooonnnnnggggggg, I got discouraged sometimes seeing questions that are 5-6 lines long. I have two more lectures until I finish, I am planning to re-read the entire book and re-do all the MCQs, simulations as well as the two final exams for my final review. Any suggestions on how to improve the homework percentage? How did you guys review for the FAR final? Thanks.

Is anyone studying DURING tax season? I've signed up for FAR on 5/1 and that only gives me two weeks of cramming after April 15th.

I've tried getting up at 4:00am to study for 2 hours in the morning (LOTS of coffee.) That only lasted 4 days. By 8:30pm you're falling asleep at your desk everynight.

Conversely I've tried leaving the office at 9:00pm to go home to study for a couple of hours but at the end of the day, my brain is just fried. It can't study.

So I just bought some flashcards from CPAExcel...they came in yesterday's mail...my idea is to carry them around with me everwhere.

I'm looking for some tips from folks in the same boat. Do people study on their lunch hours? maybe from 5-7 before heading back to the office.

What works for you??????

Anyone else out there waiting for IL scores? I'm waiting on FAR, and a friend is waiting on BEC. Does anyone know how long it takes for the board to post after the AICPA releases? Jeff expects a BEC release from AICPA today. :)

75 CPA on "CPA Exams Cover Everything!"

College was a piece of cake. I can teach anyone to be a 4.0 student. These CPA exams are something that I have never faced, however. I am teaching myself 50% of the material and with good review materials, learning the material is not a problem. The problem is the volume of material to learn. It just never ends.

Do not think for a moment that college prepared you for these CPA exams. The CPA exams cover twice the material that I had in college, but not in the same depth. I literally needed three cost accounting texts to cover all of the variance analysis questions on the business exam. Additionally, I have four intermediate accounting texts for the financial exam. If you just waltz into these professional exams like this was college, you will limp out of these exams with a failing grade.

All of the CPA candidates who took Becker with me have failed. They failed because they used the same study habits that they used in college. They crammed with Becker. That will not work. The CPA exams are not about short-term memory. These professional exams are about long-term memory on more subjects than Becker covers.

Short-term memory will not work with these exams. Only long-term memory will work. One of the major points of long-term memory is to study a little every day, even if it is only for 10 minutes. It is better to study 10 minutes for six days than it is to study once for 60 minutes. Additionally, I am using more than one review program. After I finish one program I go into another review program.

Pick your review materials carefully. You will not pass the CPA exams without good review materials! If I had to pick the best review course, I would pick Yaeger. No one matches his personal help. If it were not for Yeager, I would have failed the REG using Becker and Gleim. Yaeger is a teaching course. Becker is a fast paced review program for students who have a solid academic foundation. Gleim does not have a teacher; however, I use their multiple choice questions and simulations.

No review course can cover all of the subjects tested. Therefore, I am now using the strengths of each review program to help me pass. I would rather spend the money now then have to retake these CPA exams!

Those three initials, CPA, do not come cheaply! I have no friends, no family and no life. That is the price that I have to pay to pass each of these exams the first time. Each of these CPA exams is a monster. Studying for these exams is a full-time job. Good review materials and serious study equals success

Dale on "REG Exam taken - post test downers"

I just finished taking the REG section. I feel like crap. On the bright side, the 1st testlet didn't come off as horrible. The 2nd one made me want to slash my wrists in the testing center. The 3rd one was almost as rough. I know this usually indicates I was doing well but still.....ugh! I found most of the questions to be 'feast or famine' type. I either knew the answer easily or had no clue. There wasn't alot of working through the problem.

To make things all the more enjoyable, I start the Becker BEC classes on Wednesday. I came home after the test and read the material for that class. The amusing thing is I found one of the answers that made me scratch my head from the REG test there (that should be vague enough to not invoke any disclosure issues right?)

All in I felt worn out after the AUD test but not horrible. Not great, but not horrible. I feel less worn out on this one but more like crap. Given the difficulty on the 2nd and 3rd testlets I feel good about my performance. I won't say I think I barely passed like I felt with AUD (given that I got a 94 when I felt I barely made it). I will simply say that if I didn't get it I will be close (70-74). No one I know will listen to me. They all just say "you're smart I'm sure you did great" or "you said that about the last one and got a 94." In any event I'll find out later this month or at the end of March. In the mean time I've got 5 BEC classes to get through and a test to take before the end of February so I only get today to sulk.

On another side note, I am really questioning how smart it is to drive myself home after FAR some time in April. I felt bad enough and was distracted enough given the traffic on the way home that I probably should not have been driving. I know I've felt "impaired" in my driving two other times in my life that had nothing to do with alcohol. Has anyone else experienced that level of distraction after taking part of the cpa exam or other items (random discussion point!)?

I just check the Texas State Board's website and was looking on my testing activities. They do not show the usual confirmation of my BEC test that I took at the end of February. Usually within 2 days of testing that confirmation is there. One phone call later and they confirm that they don't have confirmation that I took it.

It would really suck to have to go back and take it again. I'm still hopeful at this point that it is floating around out there somewhere, but I am nervous now.

The answer to this is really bothering me. The question asks: Joe owns a limosine for use in his business (I'm paraphrasing a bit). The adjusted basis is $40,000. In addition, Joe owns his personal residence and furnishings, that together cost him $280,000. Joe's capital assets amount to:

the correct answer is $280,000. I understand that the limosine is business property. But why would a personal residence and furnishings be counted as capital assets?

Hello everybody. I just recently passed all four sections of the exam on my first attempt using Becker and I am now looking for a job in the wonderful State of Michigan. I have my MBA and I am also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma. So I was wondering if anyone has any advice for this future CPA? I say future CPA because I don't have the 2,000 hour experience requirement fulfilled yet so I have to do that before it's official. I would like to preferably end up with a firm or somewhere where I can fulfill the experience requirement but at the same time I am definitely open to any other type of accounting job. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe someone in Michigan is looking for a bright individual to add to their workforce? :) And thanks in advance!!!

I have both Yaeger and Roger. Yaeger is easier to use and less expensive than Rogers.

1.	Yaeger is less expensive than Roger. Use the discount code from another71.
2.	Yaeger has DVDs that I can watch on T.V. Roger has no DVDs! I have to watch Roger from my computer on the Internet.
3.	Yaeger has no expiration date. Roger expires after just 9 months. Becker expires after 18 months.
4.	You can stop, start and look at Yaeger’s DVDs as many times as you want with no problems. Rogers gives you problems! Roger’s online version disconnects from the Internet after 30 minutes! Roger only allows you to view the lectures 3 times before you have to e-mail them to get the lectures refreshed.
5.	Rogers is the most inflexible review program that I have seen. They are even more inflexible than Becker!
6.	Yaeger teaches you how to do most of the multiple choice questions in the Wiley book. Roger does not go over any questions in the Wiley book; however, they do send you the Wiley book. Roger does go over a few multiple choice questions in his book, but less questions than Yaeger or Becker.
7. Roger talks very fast and gives a lively lecture. I only used Roger for AUD because I do not like AUD. I listened to Roger first, before I listened to Yaeger or Becker. Roger helped me get my feet wet in AUD.
