I am going to be so mad if I get a 74 on FAR.
Good thing about a 74:
Possibly less studying involved for retake
Bad thing:
1 stupid point was all that kept me from passing!!

Yeap, I got a 74........one f-ing point. At this point I am not mad, but scare about how the second test is going to be.
I feel you on that 10alli05 & marivy22 - I just need a 75!!!! No 74, No 99, just a 75..lol
it's horrible to score a 74 after receiving a 73 on the 1st try for far, we'll see this time around.
If you get a 74, you should study just as much as if you'd gotten a 64. You just never know what you'll be tested on. Check out my REG scores! I only studied for 2 weeks before taking my second attempt and look how I did.
know exactly how you guys/girls feel, I agree with Marivy22, no longer mad, but im so scared about what I am going to get on my second try, sure don't want another 74 :(
Take a look at my test scores... nothing is worse than scoring in the 70s more than once in a row, trust me. Hopefully I passed Audit and am done but who knows... I will by the end of the week.
I got 3 74's on business - 3 in a row! don't feel bad! still haven't passed it.
I got a 72 on FAR first time around. There is a myth out there that the closer you get to 75 the less studying you need to d for next time. It is absolutely not true. I failed FAR the first time by 3 point. I studied for, took audit and passed, and then immediately studied FAR again. I failed with a 66. I studied less and I did way worse then the first time.
I recommend not taking a failed section for at least a couple months. You need to clear your head of the material and go back to studying and not get immediately pissed off because you know it all already. You need to study just as much as the first time, if not more.
I couldn't agree more james. I got a 70 on REG the first time and quickly retook it on the 1st day of the following test window with 2 weeks of cramming. Probably 40 hour weeks. Got a 67 the second time.
I'm joining the 74 club. Just got that grade on REG. A big bummer, I must say. I had a whole vacation plan during Christmas and now I have to cancel. But I deserve it. I failed, so I have to pay the price. It's not the AICPA's fault, it's mine!!
Still waiting for my score. :(
I got two 74's it is just miserable but you have to get through it. Had to study just as hard as if I got a 50!
just got 74 on FAR...
it's so miserable... what would I do..
Oddly enough, I thought my BEC exam was harder and I got an 80 on that one!! Heck, I even though my FAR exam was harder and I got an 89!!
I think they don't curve REG that much because all those people with a lot tax experience are doing well on the exam therefore making it more competitive to pass.
CPAMan -
I'm so sorry to hear about your 74. We'll have to go get it next window!!
CPAman - Sorry abt the 74. It is very frustrating. Are you going to retake it in Q1 2012?
@CPAMan - Cant believe you got a 74 on your last exam. Well, only one test remains and you clearly know the material. Good luck in 1st testing window 2012.
@Minimorty- Nobody is more shocked than I am. I was so sure I had it. I should get my score report in a couple of days. I'm pretty sure it was the Sims that killed me.
Oddly enough, my Sims in AUD were pretty difficult, but I passed with flying colors. This grading process is messed up!!!
Like CPAman, I got a 74 on my last part as well (AUD). I still have the next two windows to try and finish up without losing FAR.
Here's to us getting this done!
I agree CPAMan! How is this ethical? Just curious?
go to youtube and search for cartman best buy. That is what every cpa candidate wants to say to the AICPA when they get a 74.
I too got a 74 on my last section. And I know why. I was lazy with my studying.
I didn't put the same effort into my last section as I did with earlier ones.
I skimmed Becker FAR F8 and skipped F9 entirely.
Surprising I got my score report and I was "comparable" in Govt & NFP.
There was one topic that Peter Olinto tells you in the lectures is heavily tested, it was a difficult chapter and I didn't know it well. And of course I got an entire SIM on it, which I had no idea to do. The SIM was straight forward and I should have know how to do it.
I said to my co-worker after I took the exam " I do not deserve to pass that exam"
I would start the Becker pass master questions and say " I'll just do half of these"
Now, I'm kicking myself because if I had just put in more effort I would not have to spend the next 3 weeks re-studying. I could be enjoying the holidays and having some fun. Plus, I was accepted into a grad program contingent that I passed my last CPA exam section, so looks like that is on hold as well.
Since, I don't have a time machine I just have to face up to the lesson I need to learn from this experience.
My plan of attack is to start on Sunday and take the exam again on 1/3/2011.
I'm not going to watch the Becker videos again except for F8 & F9 which I skipped last time.
I'm going to re-read the book.
My notes for F1-F6 are pretty extensive so I will just note F7-F9.
Then re-do all the pass master questions.
Work the Becker SIMS
Use the Wiley test bank for a core concept review.
No shortcuts ! My last go-round I would see a difficult problem and just look at the answer.
My score report shows "Weaker" in Specific Transactions/ Events....anyone know what topics fall into that category ?
Also I use Becker from the CD not the web most of the time, is there a way to reset the pass master questions so they all appear as not answered ?
