    NINJA Question –

    Hey Guys,

First time poster here. I was pretty confident I could do well on the regulations exam. I graduated from my MAcc Program in Tax on May 9th and studied for 3 weeks straight to take the Reg exam on May 29th. I felt pretty good about the material since it was my concentration in Grad school. Unfortunately I got a 74, which devastated me. Now I want to double back and take the Reg exam again on July 1-3rd because I start full time on July 6th. I was comparable on all the sections besides Ethics and Responsibilities and Taxation on Entities where I got a weaker score on the Multiple Choice sections.

I used solely Roger CPA Review and Lectures the first time around. I did all the multiple choice problems possible one time over and had only about two days to review before my exam the first time. Now I have about three weeks to review and restudy the material and I am wondering what would be more beneficial. Should I buy the notes since they are condensed and review those or should I spring for the full on Ninja Book and try to get as much read in three weeks? I also have the BISK CPA Regulation book I am reading now as well for my weaker sections.

I got a 74 on REG with the Wiley book. Switched to NINJA MCQ, and only NINJA MCQ, doing all the questions at least once in a 4week period. I bumped my score to 78. If you learn more by doing rather than reading or listening, I recommend the same to you.

@MassiveDynamic I've been waiting to hear from someone who does only MCQ! I have Wiley and Ninja 10 pt combo and am studying AUD now. I always found I learn the best by seeing how a problem is done then explaining it to myself, or, in this case, answering the question then explaining to myself why I got it wrong.

I find I'm going through Wiley's software just to “get through” and I learn the most by doing MCQ. Obviously I do flashcards and Ninja Notes/audio…do you think that's sufficient to pass AUD?

I never tried the book, but I really enjoy the notes. It was an easier way to get a general grasp on topics and it's already all outlined for you.

I would look into the Ninja MCQ if you learn best by examples. It's a great tool to learn how to approach certain problems and practice on your MCQ skills. The explanations it gives after you get the question right or wrong is a very helpful tool for me in studying. I would really focus on doing as many MCQs as possible (from any software) if I were you.

These are all great suggestions. Thank you for the quick feedback as well. I will be looking into buying the MCQs too. I have an entire BISK CPA review book as well that I have answered zero problems in. I was hoping to supplement either the Ninja Notes or Book with these “fresh” problems leading up to the final review then the week before doing more online based ones through Roger's again.

The thing about the ninja mcq's is that the explanation is there. So I write down the ones I get wrong and concentrate on the explanation. If I get another wrong that is similar, the explanation is there again, and most of the explanations are not different (if problem is similar) save two or three words. I am liking the mcq's better than reading the book.( which I do have) and the Ninja notes are just really just a narrowed down time saver trying to rewrite or decide what's important. So, I don't think you'll go wrong with the ninja products……Now let's see if we can get a 75.

Any thoughts on using Multiple Choice out of a text book and reading the answers? Through Bisk I still have a whole book full of problems and review that I havent touched (used it for a class).

@Tcohle, for AUD I rewrote the NINJA notes and then did all the NINJA MCQ, for my 81. BUT, disclaimer, I did all NINJA MCQ for FAR and scored a 74. Doesn't always work… I should have given myself more time for FAR but I was racing against the clock because my BEC was expiring.
