I am in the situation to decide which direction I should go. I hate to make decision, however life full of making decisions and compromising. I am in my LATE 30’s, and thinking about having my first child in the following year ( I really wish I could have child much earlier ). I am currently working in the hospital doing financial stuff. The benefit of working here is the good benefit ( better than the state job) and flexible working hours. However, I got a job offer with the state department of revenue – Revenue agent. After I talked to the recruiter, I were told there will be 60% of time spend in fieldwork and 10% of that is required to drive up to 60 miles back and forth to work with the business for about a week. Considering the fact I mentioned above, having a child when I almost 40, I am thinking staying at my current job may be the better option. However I am not sure about the future of medical industry, because the pay is really low. I am perusing CPA cert now, will this make something different?

So confusing now! need ya’ll suggestion. Thank you so much!

My $.02 is if you're pursuing CPA, choose the job that makes it easier to study. Sounds like the hospital will do that.

I got 99 problems but the CPA ain't one.

    Hiya,

I had my one and only at 40. I was working for myself as a contract bookkeeper and it was great for the flexibility. Fast forward 11 years and I'm just now in the middle of exams. My degree is not in accounting, so I needed to take all 24 hours in that time. It was slow going, but so worth it to have time to spend with my daughter. I didn't make much money during those years, but loved not missing many school events. Personally, I'd go for the ease right now. It's hard enough to have a baby at 40 and study for exams without the added pressure of a new, potentially stressful job.

    Best wishes!!

Never underestimate flexibility with kids. Infinite amount of things will come up that you will need time for. My wife and I decided to bite the bullet and make off just my pay while she stayed home and worked very part time. So I never had to worry about Dr Appts, school activites, etc the things that take your time with small children. I can't confidently advise you on your situation, but hopefully Ive given you some food for thought.

I would just ride out the hospital job until you get your CPA and then find a better job. Government jobs are not that flexible (from what I have seen/heard) and it doesn't seem like a job where you can really grow as a professional, you are simply going to climb the pay scale with everyone else. However, government isnt an appealing job to me so this is completely biased!

I have 2 kids. There is no way to prepare for the responsibility of having kids. People adjust and kids adjust to whatever circumstance exists. You will find a way to work and have a family. If you are waiting for the perfect time it is probably never going to happen. So, basically, if it is in your heart to take the new job things will work themselves out.

Almost always from my phone... please excuse my typos!

Have a Magic 8 Ball to make life altering decisions for you. It'll be the best decision you'll ever make ; )

It's how I came to the decision to persue the CPA and to take over the world.

I agree, Skynet. However, I am not sure about the decision I made is a magic 8 ball or not. It is one of the desicions I made and would never know what would the alternative consequence is if I chose the other. I guess what I can do is live in the moment and trust myself.

@kukuna I would urge you to make an agreement to yourself to make the best choices possible in life, then live life without regretting those choices. Every choice you make will lead to some good things for you, and will prevent you from getting other good things. It will also lead to some bad things for you, and prevent you from experiencing other bad things. So, the best choice is to be careful and logical, but then resolve to not regret the choices you make. Any time you're tempted to, remember that you wouldn't have the positives you have and would have negatives you don't have if you had made the other choice.
