A little hope for FAR takers who think they failed.

I sat for FAR on July 1 and left the exam feeling like I had failed miserably. When I sat for the MC I blew through the first testlet and was feeling like :wow this aint so bad.” However, the second and third testlets were like reading Chinese. Its fair to say that I flagged about 22 questions in the last 2 testlets, and I wasn’t too sure about many others. As time was running down I made some “educated guesses” for those 22 questions and moved on to the SIMS. Now these weren’t much better. I first tackled the research question, which I know I got right, but the other 6 were a mixed bag. I specifically remember on one of the sims I was just clicking answers in random order because I was ready to be done.

After the test I walked out, called my dad to tell him I would be retaking the exam, and knew I had failed. I wasn’t even nervous checking my score last night because I knew there was no way. But yet, despite all that, I got an 85. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I literally sat looking at the screen for 10 minutes in disbelief.

All in all, I guess my point is that you really can’t judge how well you did on the test until you see your score. Nobody knows the method to the madness of grading. Unless you are leaving questions blank, always have some hope. My biggest advice when you sit for FAR is to get your mind off the test afterwards. Take a trip, drink some beer, go ride a roller coaster… but dont dont dont think about it. If you can leave that test feeling like I did, surely all hope is not lost.
