Does it have to be working under the same CPA firm?? If I work for a CPA firm for 6 months, then another CPA firm for 6 months, does it count?

I dont think so. I think it has to be 1 year of working consecutively. And it's not just a CPA firm. You have work under someone who will sign your papers. So the guy signing the paper will not be able to do so unless you have been working under him for 1 year atleast. The form is a checklist indicating that he/she has given you this amount of work and you are established enough to do it.
I'm not 100% sure of this answer, but I think it's right.

I'm reading the Licensing Applicant Handbook right now and it doesn't state that it needs to be under the same CPA supervisor. I think just give the state board a call to be sure.

August 29, 2013 at 4:56 am #475403W_HAMILTONMemberI had another question similar to this same subject.
If you worked under a CPA for over a year, left to work in a job where you were no longer working under a CPA, and then passed your CPA … can you simply get the original CPA to sign off that you worked for him for one year to meet the work requirements?
REG - 93 (7/30/13)
BEC - 90 (8/19/13)
AUD - 98 (8/31/13)

However, he can still sign off on my experience because he knows I was a tax auditor before I came to work for him. At least, I hope this is the case because I don't want to sit around and wait for experience before I can get my license.

August 29, 2013 at 7:32 pm #475407AnonymousInactiveIt depends on your state, but I don't think you don't have to do the full year under one CPA. Check to see if the experience verification form for your state is online and it will tell you.

August 30, 2013 at 7:18 pm #475409AnonymousInactiveIt definitely varies state to state. In KY, it's 1 year of experience after completing the education requirements, but can be obtained in any accounting environment(s) as long as a CPA signs off on it. I am almost finished with my 1 year, will have obtained it working for 2 different companies, and none of it will have been working for a CPA, but I know a CPA who is willing to sign off on it, since he knows I have been doing accounting work and KY doesn't require that the work be under a CPA.

August 30, 2013 at 8:20 pm #475411mrogovitzMember@SammyJ and chrisli1217, I just wanted to comment about the “consecutive year” comment that you made. I know in MA, you do not have to work for a full year straight through to obtain the work experience. When I worked in PwC's tax practice, it was a rotational program and if you happened to get a rotation that overlapped with audit, you could use that time towards your experience requirement. For example, if you start out working on high net worth individual tax projects and then rotate to a tax team that has overlap with audit, you may end up going back to your original team after that second rotation. Then after a while you can work it out with your boss to get the remaining audit experience.
AUD: Attempt 1: 60; Attempt 2: 78
BEC: Attempt 1: 75 (lost credit); Attempt 2: 80
FAR: Attempt 1: 74; Attempt 2: 74; Attempt 3: 78
REG: Attempt 1: 76 (lost credit); Attempt 2: 68; Attempt 3: 80Finished 11/01/2013!!!
