Hey I was wondering what is the average entry level accountant salary in nyc so I can have a good idea of what to reply during interviews asking for salary expectation

Am I correct in assuming it to be in the 50k range, thats based on my research on sites like glassdoor.com and pay scale

Depending on size of the firm and the area, I'd say it would be ~55k plus. I'm in a much lower COL area and started out at 53.5k.

However, I have no idea and am literally just making numbers up off an educated guess.

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86

It probably depends on the size of the firm (and whether you are going into public or private accounting…), but I always thought super-high cost-of-living cities like NYC and SF had starting salaries closer to 60k. I was in a much lower cost-of-living city and I started out at 51k.

If you were to start at a Big 4 in NYC, I think a reasonable starting salary for an entry level accountant would be around 55k – 65k.

    REG - 93 (7/30/13)
    BEC - 90 (8/19/13)
    AUD - 98 (8/31/13)
    FAR - 84 (10/19/13)

@ Rache1 that seems reasonable, although when I started out, I got paid crumbs. Keep in mind that I started in private accounting, so the salary would be less. Salary most of the time is based really on experience though and years in industry. I've seen accountants who are idiots that make a ton of money, but don't know how to do much! They just meet the necessary experience requirements. Although I'm young into my career, I still can't figure out how that works.

    FAR - 93

    BEC - 84!!!!
AUD - 99!!!!!! CPA exam complete.

Check the Robert Half salary guide by job title, size of company, and years of experience. Then adjust by the multiplier towards the end of the document for your city. Every person I know of that's been hired was within the range. I think it's pretty darn accurate!

Looks like the Robert Half site is down, I have the actual book. Ranges are listed as 74K-93K for NYC large public firms for both tax and audit, and less than 1 year of experience. There are tons of jobs titles for corporate accounting, but to show you the other side of the spectrum, being a general corporate accountant for a smaller business is 53-64K.
