I've been diagnosed with an vision problem and am going to try to see if I can get special accomodations - I can't see out of my left eye and need bigger text/more time on the test. Has anyone gotten special accomodations? Does NASBA work with you, your state board and Prometric easily?

offlineMemberI have. I sent all the required information to my state board. It took a little longer I guess to process my application but once my first application was processed my follow up applications for the remaining 3 exams were all super quick (24-48 hours). Once you get the accommodation you might have issues with prometric depending where you live. I live in a big city and my local prometric told me the days and times I could come in. I suppose if you live in a small city it could be even more restrictive. Overall it was an easy process just you will not have all the test scheduling freedom others enjoy.

offlineMemberI have read that getting the accomodations is possible but they make you jump through hoops in order to get them, you have to provide a lot of evidence to them. Ive not personally tried because even though I qualify, its not worth the stress/effort to me to prove it and since I dont take any accomodations at work I know its not affecting my test peformance.

offlineMemberThat would be my problem Mike, I have fought very hard NOT to be accomodated all my life, and made very sure that only a very few people who really needed to know actually know I have a disability. I actually qualify only to take any type of exam orally because of a neurological condition that makes handwriitng almost impossible for me and typing quite a bit more difficult than most people. I just (personally, not with anybody else) take major exception to being different in any way :)

offlineMemberThis is a recent diagnosis, just in the past year so I imagine it may be somewhat difficult. I've been diagnosed with macular dystrophy which is a somewhat rare disorder that eventually will lead to being legally blind. I've found that working on the PC for lengths of time cause severe headaches and make seeing things difficult.

offlineMemberIt shouldn't be a problem. You just have to send in the necessary paperwork. At most Prometric locations (but not all), there is a separate, distraction-free testing room for candidates with special accommodations.
