If you are happy with your public accounting job but still want to connect with recruiters on LinkedIn for future opportunities, is it a good idea? I worry fellow employees will see the connections and get the idea that I am looking to leave in the near future.

I connect with the majority of the recruiters that send me a request. Every time, without fail, I have multiple coworkers who are already connected with the person. It's just the nature of public accounting, I don't think people read too much into it. At least I don't.

Don't connect with fellow employees until you've left the job. That's my rule for facebook, linkedin, you name it. I am a more private person than most, but I have just found that it's the easiest that way, from not doing that at my first job.

People will generally respect that if they add you & you tell them that it's your policy to not do that because you're uncomfortable with it. If they don't respect it, probably someone you actually don't want to have access to your personal life, anyway!

    "Don't worry, beeeeee happy!"

Feel free to connect. My boss is connected to some and he's been a partner here for like 30 years or something.

Just don't respond on any of their posts- everyone will see it. I've called out more than one coworker for saying, “I'm interested!”.

Do yourself a favor and PM the recruiter if you're interested. They know the ropes.
