I know this topic has been beat to death, but I’ve looked back at old posts and I’ve looked up the colleges and extension programs you guys mention and I still need help. I have to take 4 more upper level accounting classes to be licensed because my degrees are in Business Management and I have only take 8 upper level accounting classes so I could qualify to sit for the exam. I have taken:

    Audit

    Intermediate I

    Intermediate II

    Intermediate III

    Individual Federal Income Tax

    Cost Accounting

    Accounting and Film

    Accounting Information Systems

I am having trouble finding additional upper level accounting classes online that I haven’t already taken without going to multiple schools. UCLA Extension has the most classes available, but there are also the most expensive.

–University of North Alabama only offers Corp Tax

–UCSD Extension only offers corp tax and real estate tax and accounting

–Louisiana State only offers Government and NFP Accounting

Does anyone know of any school that offers a WIDE variety of online accounting classes that won’t cost me $2500-$3000 for these last 12 credits??

Have you checked Bellevue University near Omaha, Nebraska?

Thanks for the suggestion. I just took a look at Bellevue and I can't find the online class list. They have all the classes I would need, but they seem to be a traditional university without an extension program. I'll keep looking around their website to see if they have an online selection. Thanks!

Have you looked into Western Governors University? It is about $3000 per six month semester and you could complete all your classes for that amount.

Their website says they are not accepting applications at this time. The upper level accounting courses are under review by the Florida Board of Accountancy.

Have tried Univ. of West FL, Stetson, or UAB? All offer a MACC, but you should be able to take courses as non degree seeking. I know for sure West FL will do this.

Thanks! I just sent UWF an email. Hopefully they will get back to me soon despite the Christmas break. I should have looked into this last week since most colleges are on break next week. I will email a few other schools to have more options. It would be really nice to get all of this done at one school. I was hoping I didn't have to apply anywhere and send in transcripts, but it looks like a regular college/university are my only options. I guess I won't be able to fast track these last 4 classes. 🙁

You may want to check University of Phoenix or University of Maryland–it won't hurt to see what they offer.

Try Santa Monica College. I am taking classes there and a lot of the accounting classes are online. You can also order books instead of going to the bookstore. As far as actually having to go on campus, I had to once or so to get my counselor to sign off on the prerequisite course but I think she did say it could have been done over email? They never answer their phones though.. Worth a shot.

FYI if you're in FL do not use Univ. of Phoenix. The Board of Accountancy absolutely does not like them. When I was applying to sit for the exam there were numerous candidates that used them and were denied because they were essentially using the same curriculum for multiple courses but naming them something else.

I won't use University of Phoenix. They are overpriced and not worth it just for convenience IMO. I think I may have to piece together courses from several places to avoid going to campus. I did the first 8 classes on campus and it was such a pain, parking, scheduling, going to class in the rain, uggg. Dreading that entire experience. Plus I have to get my parents to watch the kids whenever I go to a campus class because my husband's work schedule is crazy. It's just not convenient at all. I'll check out some of the other places you guys mentioned. Thank you!

@ mamabear, I am with you on the whole experience of having to go on campus. Parking was always terrible, having to walk a mile to get to class, and when it rained it was miserable going from class to class! I am looking to attend UAB, Auburn, or Georgia Southern for the rest of my credit hours. They all offer 100% online courses for the Masters degree and that is very convenient for me since I am also married, I work full-time, and I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old.

Thanks DreamChaser. It is insane how difficult it is to find one place that offers 4 more classes in addition to what I have already taken. Florida's requirements for 36 upper level accounting courses is a little limiting. I looked at UNF and considered just going back there since I know most of the professors, even though I would have to go on campus and most of their electives are offered “infrequently”. I remember that being a problem before. That was one of the reasons I stopped to take the exam. They didn't have any more classes I could take for 2 semesters in a row and I didn't want to waste that time not studying for anything. I am at a loss right now. I've looked into FAU, FIU, UNA, UF, FSU, LSU, UCLA, and many more. I was going to take the Spring off before I went back to finish up those 4 classes, but it looks like I need to get started right away because I only have 3 years and if I have to go through the application process at multiple schools this whole process could take a while.

Foothill College always has a good offering. I took classes for fun there when I was in high school.

https://www.foothill.edu/schedule/catalog.php –> Quarter of Winter 2015 –> Accounting –> Click on View Schedule at the bottom of each course description.

It looks like the following classes are offered online for Winter (that you have not yet taken):

    Advanced Accounting

    Financial Statement Analysis

    Fraud Examination

    Accounting for Small Businesses

    Accounting for Gov't & NFP

Foothill is on a quarter system so 5 units converts to about 3.33 semester units.
