ADHD….test suggestions

I passed Regulation. I have failed FARS twice and did worse the second time.

I have ADHD, and have taken Strattera but cannot longer afford it.

It gave me bad headaches anyway. What seems to work is Focus Factor.

I think my problem is I am not comprehending the problem that they are asking.

Any suggestions on test taking techniques especially with getting to understand the whole problem?

I am open to suggestions. Please help.

Are you talking about for the actual test? or are you talking about focusing while studying?

You could try a cheaper prescription such as generic ritalin or adderall.

    Actual test.

I have been working on multiple choice via the Wiley test bank. Depending on the subject within the test bank my grades range between 60-80.

Do you suggest finding a study partner for FARS via the forum.

I am using CPAExcel, Yaeger, Wiley Testbank and Ninja notes.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

For what it's worth I have ADHD. I've found that reading doesn't work at all for me. I always have to do something through touching, if that makes sense. I constantly write notes, rewrite formulas, and do multiple choice questions until I get light headed. Hope that helps

@cpasucks23 I think it's 50/50. People could have problems focusing, but at the same time majority of that reason can come from not being interested in the topic. I was really interested in learning about taxes and I felt REG was way easier than BEC to study and test for.

Now, if you want to talk fake let's go with gluten free, organic food, seasonal shift disorder, work-shift disorder (for lazy people who need to blame their lack of work ethic on), and the list goes on and on…

Lets say I had to take the CPA exam several times, and now I think I have ADHD. I go to a doctor, and get Ritalin, which helps me tremendously,so I start passing parts one after the other. Would that be considered cheating?

Martin if you didn't have ADHD, Ritalin wouldn't do much for you except MAYBE give you more energy for studying, a couple red bulls would pretty much do the same.

Most people have no clue what ADHD is. They think it's an inability to focus but really it's focus on multiple things at the same time.

To the OP, try soft ear plugs both when studying and on exam day. Some people with ADD/ADHD find background noise/music cuts down distractions but that's not an option at prometric. The big headphones at prometric are useless. My performance improved significantly bringing my soft ear plugs on exam day.

mla1169, if Ritalin does not help you achieve better grades (memory & concentration), then how come is one of the most abused substance among most university student in the US. I dont think they would be paying 5.00 per tablet if red bull could help them the same way.

Because it helps them to pull all nighters and stay alert while studying. It's pretty well documented actually. They're paying for their perception of what it does for them not researching what the drug actually does lol! Most college kids pay because a friend told them what it did for their grades, because they're dumb kids. Besides 2-3 red bulls cost more than $5.

I dont think you can compare Ritalin to red bull when it comes achieving better grades. I cant further comment on this topic cause I will have to actually take Ritalin to make a fair comparison.

Both of my kids have been diagnosed with ADHD. Neither of my kids takes amphetamines because I won't allow it. I've researched pretty extensively at least enough to know better than to draw conclusions about prescription drugs from what a bunch of children do at college.

I guess you dont believe the link cpasucks posted is very accurate.

I still believe ritalin could make a difference, but I will never use it since I still need my 8 hrs of sleep.

The link posted was not a reputable source and is a site that clearly has an agenda. I can post links to a million sources that dispute that but those are sources that I find reputable and valuable. Like Time magazine https://healthland.time.com/2010/12/21/adderall-may-not-make-you-smarter-but-it-makes-you-think-you-are/

I think a little more critically than to trust just any site posted.

newnola, have you tried Noopet or other smart drugs like Piracetam? Noopet is a lot cheaper, and it might work. Search on Amazon, and you might find a cheaper substitute.
