Advice after failing AUD

I currently have BEC retake on Nov. 15th and then FAR on January 3rd.

I’m wondering since the AUD information is somewhat “fresh” in my head should I take AUD on January 3rd, lose my FAR NTS (can’t take FAR anytime after that because it will be busy season at work and it’ll be passed 6 months when busy season is over) and take FAR in May after busy season is over?

Does anyone have any experience in moving around already scheduled exams to retake a failed one? Please let me know.

    Thanks everyone!

hey dd junkie – sorry for the time you spent on that!

i think you should retake AUD and let FAR go. you will go into the busy season happy with a passing score on audit and you will have more time to focus on FAR and not just cram with the hopes of getting lucky!

so i went 65/86 on AUD…just remember to that you have PLENTY of time for this exam…do one testlet and then read every question again to make sure you are comfortable…those questions can be very tricky with wording …you might read it too quickly or you are excited because you think you know the answer to the question before reading it through properly

also i am not sure if wiley has a research tab like becker…but it seems to be the same on the actual exam…you can type key word for sample reports/opinions to review while taking the actual exam (for the sims) which might help with answering a question

    good luck!

I would never let an NTS expire.

While the AUD material may not be “fresh” in your head during the retake, it will still be in there somewhere.

It's also worth considering that you may be able to pencil AUD in during the busy season. AUD doesn't really have that much material.

I'm in the same boat. I just got a 72 on AUD. I'm going to take the other two exams I have my NTS for, see what happens then go from there. I already paid for those NTS's and am going to use them.

Thanks for the input. Definitely something to consider. Busy season is about 12 hour days, Monday through Saturday. There would be no chance IMO. Mainly because most Prometric centers won't be open on Sunday.

Wiley does have the research tab, but it's really glitchy so to speak.

I'll talk to the wife and see what she thinks because it really is wasting over $200 of “our” money if I let FAR expire, so we'll see.

Stick with FAR then go to AUD. Having the material fresh isn't always a good thing IMO. It is from experience better to forget some stuff so you properly learn it again instead of just skimming through the material.

My recommendation is to get AUD out of the way. You were close, and have the materials fresh. You will pass next time if you just make sure to study for it.

Loosing a NTS or a few hundreds of bucks… who cares? I think people in general here are over-emphasizing on the “money aspect” of taking exams (not saying you are), which I find odd – the main goal must be to pass the exam in the most efficient manner, not to make it as cheap as possible?

@krok–I don't think it's odd to focus on money, especially if you have a family to think about. I can't afford to waste money on an expiring NTS and it hurts me every time I have to retake. My company will pay for the first attempt on any test, but not a retake. It's probably hard for you to understand because I remember reading a post you made that your company pays for everything and your expenses, including travel to the US, are up to the $17,000 mark (I could be wrong about the number). I don't recall you mentioning a family either so if they were to ask you to pay for the tests you could probably afford it. Most of us don't have that. There are a lot of people here that aren't even working yet and have to cover all of the costs out of their pocket. While I do agree that passing should be the main priority, money is still a consideration for most.

@Dunkin–You have already put BEC after AUD. I think you should go ahead and take FAR before your AUD retake. $250 is money that you don't need to waste. For my retakes I completely start my studying over from scratch (minus watching any lectures) because it is not smart to skim or skip anything for a retake. If you decide to start from scratch then taking FAR first won't make a difference. If you hadn't already put BEC between your first and second AUD attempts I may have had a different opinion, but since you did, keep going with FAR and take AUD later, after busy season.

    Mamabear:

I'm not gonna argue that – surely there are people with less financial capacity than me and I am sorry for not recognizing that. You were right about the figure, I'm at a 17,000 euro budget financed by my employer, and no family except for an understanding girlfriend, so I guess I'm in a lucky situation. (not that I feel that privileged right now though, working full time at Big 4 and studying REG 10 hours a day)

I'd say that for a lot of us, being efficient includes both time and money.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)
