I have my CPA license, and work for a firm that does audits for the government. Recently, I was asked to do a private look-over (this would be on the side) of an organizations financial’s in quickbooks — not an actual “audit”, but what would probably qualify as “agreed-upon procedures”, but very small scale, to give a level of independent assurance that they are doing things soundly.
My question is, and it may sound dumb but, does the CPA license allow me to do such a thing? Am I qualified/allowed by license to look someone’s financials over and write them a letter of assurance just privately using my name and my title? I’ve never done it before so I just want to make sure there are no ethics issues or other concerns I should have. Please, any advice is welcome.
Thanks!
