    Hi guys,

Any suggestion? I have graduated from school for 2 years and passed the exam 6 months ago. Every since I passed my exam, I have been trying to find a job and work under a CPA to fulfill the requirements. Since I have never worked in public accounting or corporate accounting before, find a job under a CPA become very difficult.

Most of the jobs I applied are to accounting firms, because I don’t know which company has a CPA and which one doesn’t.

Anyone know if there is any accounting job searching site for jobs in NYC? Maybe I should sign up with a temp agency (like Robert Half) and ask them to place me under a CPA?

I am also thinking maybe I should expand my search area for similar positions like bookkeeping, A/R and A/P, etc. But what if your supervisor is not a CPA?!

Finding the right job is so hard and I am about to give up.

I wonder if anyone else have the same problem with me…

Any help or advice will be great!

I think that your best bet is to get in touch with different recruiting companies and ask them to help you find anything under the supervision of a CPA. Another choice is to look for job postings that say “candidate must be able to sit for the CPA exam” because most of the times these companies know about the experience requirement and have CPAs as supervisors. You can also call those companies that you're interested in and express your interest in the position to the HR manager then ask if the accounting supervisor, manager, or controller is a CPA and explain the requirements for the CPA license.

I would also suggest reaching out to recruiters directly from LinkedIn, and express an interest of Information Interview. Join professional networking groups like NABA, ALPFA, Ascend, etc… When you meet the people from firms directly and network with them they could help passing your resume to the HR. Instead of Robert Half see other search firms.

I agree with rp 12. Networking through LinkedIn has worked wonders for me.

Try Robert Half. See if they can place you with a small CPA firm. I have no personal experience with their services, only that my old employer hired replacements for other employees and myself once I left from there.

THE 300 CLUB WILL DO JUST FINE!

    Thanks everyone.

I have never try LinkedIn, I am not sure where the recruiters are… but I will try.

I have never try Robert Half either. I did have an interview with them once in my life, but they have never successfully place me onto anything..

I am also worrying about jobs with placement agency. My friend actually work through an agency, but she said every three months or so you switch an assignment. What if your supervisor refuse to sign off your experience because you are a short term employee?

Right now, I am just focusing on applying to accounting firms. But I am going to expand to recruiters to see if they have anything nice for me. I am also going back for a Master in the summer, hopefully by then I will join some network and find something.
