Advice on REG retake

    Hi,

Could anyone give me some advice on my REG study? I use Becker and Wiley to study for REG, and I did pretty good on the MC and SIM (80s). But as I walked into the test center, I go blank and kinda screw it up.. (and feel like I know nothing). I feel like what I studied didn’t really match what is on the test..

I am pretty sure I fail my test (although I am still waiting for the test score… there is simply no hope.)

People say I should focus heavily on tax, especially individual tax and corporate tax. Usually the test paper will test one or the other.. What topics in both do I have to focus on? Like AMT, 1231/1245/1250?

I think I should focus on studying specific topics so I don’t wonder myself all over the book? Is that a good idea? (Of cause, the plan is to do the whole test bank 2 times right before I actually take the test) Would anyone recommend reading the book again and write up some notes? I did take notes on my first reading but it was not a good notes.

Another time is, should I focus on another section of the test while I restudy on REG? I am kinda short on time. My FAR credit expire 2015 Q2, if I plan to retake REG in Q3 (and hopefully I pass), I got 3 test period to study AUD and BEC? I am not sure if that will be enough, I discovered I am not good at any part of this CPA exam!

I spend too much time studying for REG, used 2 test period and still fail it. I spend about the same amount of time on FAR and I did fine. Apparently, the hard work didn’t pay off.

If anyone could give me any advice, I will be greatly appreciated!

If you are worried about running out of time, you could maybe take AUD or BEC at the very end of this quarter, and still have time to re-study for REG before Q3. I completely understand how you feel though – my REG experience was not a pleasant one. Still waiting for that score. Good luck!

Relax…… making notes of your own helps a lot for revising the day before the test.. for example.. writing down the differences between two sections/topics to get out of the confusion. so that when you see a question on one of the topics, you can recollect both topics. No more confusion and you know what the question is about. you may focus more on studying specific topics (like tax topics) however make sure you do other topics.

to avoid monotony, you make take AUD or BEC first then get back to REG. since you are familiar with REG, you will not take much time to go for the battle.

dancinqueen and CPA75, thanks for the reply.

Depends how far I am away from passing, I am thinking maybe I will retake REG again early July. I got two months to read the whole thing again. Then by July I should study up for AUD and take it either at the end of Q3 or beginning of Q4? Then BEC should falls in the end of Q4. Although I think it will be a little rush, but I think I will just go take the test and pray I will pass (just spend a little more money…)?

Anyone actually know how long it will take to study for AUD and BEC? Assume I can spend max 2 hours per day during weekday and maybe 5-8 hours each day on weekends? The thing is.. I havn't start AUD and BEC at all, I don't think I will make it to the test at the very end of Q2, unless I can study full time or something..? Well, if the test material is short and easy, maybe I can make it!

I don't know if this is actually a good plan or not, but my sister say I should just stick with REG until I pass it. She said the worst case is I retake FAR. (She said since I am good with numbers, I should pass it easily). I also heard that AUD had a lot of things similar to REG and FAR?

I wish I have more time to study, but I got to travel 13 miles to go to work (about 1.5 hours each way). Also, I got to work overtime every other day because I am in this $15 Million audit / accounting review project.
