I just passed CPA exam in New York. I am currently working on my masters degree and expect to finish within the next 2 years. I don’t know when i will obtain the work requirements. Are there any time limits?

I believe it varies by state-some do have limits, some don't. The best thing to do is e-mail your state board and ask. Either way, I believe the shortest time I've seen posted here was within about 3, maybe 5, years. The only thing that seems to be unified across states in this process is the exam itself.

    AUD - 72; 87
    REG - 64; 74; 84
    BEC - 88

In California there your exam does not expire. My boss finally was signed off the CPA after 28 years. He passed but the firm would not sign his certificate of experience. The reason give was “in order to keep salaries low”, so he became an EA. My point is that the exam does not expire and you can send in your experience if the company is willing to sign off it.

It totally depends on the state. Longshot is right most states that do have time limits are three to five years. My current state was three years. So I had the option of moving back to the state i originally passed in, or re-taking it. I chose the latter. I also could have got certified in a state with no residency requirements, and then tried to get reciprocity, but felt that that would have been shady. I would advise making sure that you get your CPA first, as in most companies, a CPA is more desirable than a masters.

In Florida you have 3 years to complete the requirements for licensing after you finish the CPA exam.

In New York, the exam scores never expire. I called the coordinator for the Nasba board for NYS a while ago and he told me the scores do not expire. He also sent me an email stating this.

    FAR - 93
