    Hi,

I am writing here because I am so confused now about my career right now. I have spent over half a year looking for full-time job but failed to get one. I am an international student attending graduate school and about to graduate in May 2015. I have pretty good GPA and attended lots of professional activities. I had interned in several companies and also assisted my professor in his case writing. Now I am really frustrated.

Does any one have any good advice? Thank you a lot!

Why didn't you get a job at your internships? If you do well, they will often be some of the best career starters. Assuming your school is decent (not much you can do about it if it wasn't), networking might be your best bet. Talk to others who can give you better advice than I.

Sometimes international students struggle communicating in spoken and written English as well as other interviewees. If you think communication may be an issue, you should work on improving it.

    Just be patient. Good luck!

Usually the place I interned did not provide sponsorship – that's the problem. I think I speak pretty decent English but I do not know what goes wrong on my resume or where goes wrong during my interview. I have been to career center and they said that my resume looks fine..So I am totally confused now..

Sponsorship is going to be an issue particularly for entry level position. Not speaking perfect english is another issue. I was born here and score in the 90th+ percentile in english standardized tests but I speak kind of slang and rough when talking normally since I grew around non-english speaking immigrants (parents) and very poor neighborhood… I feel that works against me in interviews.

Maybe those places are only looking for interns because it can be cheaper if the job is simple enough. I interviewed with a firm who told me there would likely be no full time offer at the end of a tax internship. I passed on it to go after something more likely to turn into full time.

it costs the company more money to hire international student and sponsor visa instead of hiring someone that is a citizen here. In addtion, the companies need to prove that You (internationl student) is better qualified candidate over any other U.S resident or citizen candidtates to get you that h-1 visa that you need to work. In addition, you need to be able to communicate well with your interviewers, and not just memorize the script that you've prepared for the interview. This takes practice and I suggest you set up some mock interviews at your school to enhance this skill.

@GotCPA Thanks for the advice! And I have already mocked interview with the career center for several times during the semester. You are right about the international students v.s. U.S. citizen part..Many application windows are not even open to us on our school job search platform, which greatly limits the application. And some companies screen us through questionnaire so if we request sponsorship, we don't even get an interview…That's really sad..
