….Am I crazy?

    All;

Well, as expected. the 60 on Bec came thru on Tuesday. It was my first REAL attempt at BEC so I wasn’t too dissapointed. I’ve now failed three parts this year (my first real go around with the exam = aud 2x and bec1x) by using Yaeger.

So why am I not posting my dissapointing post after a failing score? Am I crazy? I started Becker earlier this month and I have been absolutely loving it (loving it as much as someone can as far a CPA course). The format suits me perfectly, I stay engaged with the lectures and feel like I am retaining the material, the becker way. Am I crazy to feel this confident going in after really not doing well the last few times with Yaeger? I was apprehenisve to get Becker because of cost, but decided to go forward with it, as I had heard so many great things. I’ve been doing each lecture and the corresponding homework and am already starting on A-4. My plan is to finish the rest and then re-do all the homework questios while mixing in some of the progress tests. I then will also reinforce the material by reviewing the ninja notes and doing extra questions from the Wiley Test Bank.

My questions is…Am I crazy to think that Becker may be my solution???????

No you are not. I used Becker for all four sections and did not use anything to supplement it and it worked out great! I think Becker might be just the solution to help you pass the exams! Good luck!

Some some Becker just works better. I am one of those people. I have passed BEC, AUD and REG on the first try with Becker. I am hopeful that I will have the same success next week when I tackle. FAR.

I also purchased the flashcards which reinforces the important topics and it has really helped me.

You are not crazy. Becker brought me from a 53 to a 91 in REG. It was a huge investment, and I paid for it completely out of pocket, so I was really nervous about it.

But the first day I sat down and started watching my first REG lecture, I knew I had made the right choice for myself. I almost started crying because it was so different, and so much better than what I had been doing. I went through everything in REG twice, and felt incredibly prepared going into the exam. So far REG has been my favorite section with Becker. I wasn't as fond of BEC, though it helped me to an 88 (!), and FAR is crazy hard (I'm in week two), but I am so happy I got Becker. So so happy.

Part of this test is mental, and it is so important to find a study program that works for you and gives you confidence in yourself. Not only have I learned a lot using Becker, but I have more confidence in my ability to pass. And once you start passing, the momentum just picks you up. I don't want to jinx myself, but now that I've passed REG and BEC within the span of two months, I feel like becoming a CPA is something that is really going to happen, and is something I can really do.

One of my new years resolutions was to become a CPA in 2012. After I spent the first half of the year studying for and failing REG and FAR, I started seriously doubting myself. Then I got Becker and promptly passed two sections. It is awesome, and you are not crazy at all.

Agreed!! You are not crazy. Different people learn in different ways. For some Yeager was the answer, for others Becker or Wiley or something else entirely. Becker has been amazing for me and I passed my first 2 sections easily. I haven't used any supplementary materials either. I am hoping the streak continues and I get through BEC and AUD on my first attempt as well.

Don't doubt what works! I'm glad you found something that did 🙂

@those who have replied that they have used becker….

how have you been studying? just going thru the lectures, homework and sims, then repeat? watch the lectures twice? use wiley as a supplement?

i'm watching lectures doing hw, then going on to the next then after im done im going to re-do all the questions and do progress tests….thoughts?

I watch all the lectures and do all the HWs except for the optional practice questions and the sims on the first run. Then during review I skim through the lectures and take notes on unfamiliar and weaker areas. After each lecture review I will do the optional practice questions, the sims, and then take a progress test. Once I make my second run I do the final exams and as many final progress tests as possible.

    REG - 5/21/2012 - 85
    FAR - 7/24/2012 - 86
    BEC - 8/27/2012 - 85
    AUD - 10/5/2012 - 72....rematch 1/3/13 (waiting)

I do the lectures, hw and all sims. I also take notes on everything as it helps me absorb it before I start doing the hw questions and sims.

In final review i re-study my notes, do all hw a second time and memorize as many of the flashcards as I can. It helps solidify the concepts. Once I am done restudying all chapters, hw and flashcards I re-do all sims and the finals. Of cource I do progress tests constantly in my final review.

are the progress tests good? how many questions are in them? also – do you guys think the final review is worth it or i should be ok with that/supplement with some wiley test bank.

I really am confident I can do this with Becker…but really appreciate all your advice!!!

    My study system with Becker:

    1. Watch the lecture and read the chapter simultaneously (pausing the lecture as needed to stay caught up).

    2. Review the chapter.

    3. Go through the flashcards.

    4. Do all the MCQs and TBSs, marking the ones that teach me a concept not present in the book, the ones I got wrong, and any others I think would be good to come back to.

    5. Study any area in which I have remaining questions/confusion.

    6. REPEAT until chapters are complete.

    7. Go back and review each chapter, and work all the marked questions.

    8. Go through all the flashcards.

    9. Do both Final Exams.

    10. Morning of the exam: page through the whole book one last time.

I never do progress tests, but some people find them helpful as well.

You think you are crazy because you choose the top rated CPA review and you are trusting it? WHAT!?!?!?!!?!?!?

With that said, I think that no matter which review you chose, a free one, a cheap one, an expensive one… The important thing here is to study, review, answer, repeat and really comprehend the material. If YOU study, I mean REALLY study… You will have no problem receiving that grade in excess of 75….

So get in there… Do your part and you will pass the exam.

    A - 68, 81
    R - 70, 82
    F - 84
