Should I focus on Ancillary material? & Is it heavily tested in exam?

Ethically, I can't answer the second part of your question as it would violate exam disclosure rules. However, I believe that designating material as “ancillary” is dangerous…it definitely shouldn't be a pass to just skip over it. Things that Becker designates as “ancillary” are just topics that they BELIEVE will show up infrequently on the exam. All in all, it's just their opinion, nothing more. So my advice would be to study it like you would anything else. Hope that helps.

    nothing is ancillary.

REG: PASS || BEC: PASS || AUD: PASS || F: SCORE PENDING..

Haha – maybe some of us aren't the best to ask, but I know I never even skimmed the ancillary material and I know a few of my colleagues did the same. We've all passed now, so I don't think it's a deal breaker.

Unless you're going for the gold medal or something, I doubt it's too important. The only time you'll get questions about stuff that's in the ancillary material is when you're doing so well on your test that you're likely to pass anyways (MC seem to get much harder if you're doing well…)

Bottom line: I've never heard someone say “if I just would have studied the ancillary material I would have passed…”

    FAR - 72, 78
    AUD - 74, 90
    REG - 78
    BEC - 76

    Done!

@OP – Indeed. Some of us are, in fact, better to ask than others….you will invariably receive a variety of opinions from this group and everyone has a different study method. Personally, I read the ancillary material as if it were a normal part of the book and I didn't have to take any of the sections more than once…not saying that the ancillary material was the only reason I passed instead of failed, but results are on my side, so why mess with success?

I'm not saying you should memorize every single sentence within the ancillary material section, but to skip over it as the previous poster would suggest, is an unnecessary risk to take. Presumably, you can read…I suggest you read through the ancillary material and maybe jot down a few notes. You'll be fine. Good luck.

DO NOT Skip ancillary material in Becker, especially for REG.
