Another test bank really needed?

    Hello all,

I have read numerous reviews where many have supplemented their test banks with other test banks so they use 2 test banks to study. Currently I am using WTB and have done all the questions close to 3 times (2,830 questions to be exact).

Would it be beneficial to get another test bank? I assume most of these test bank will have an overlap of questions since they maybe getting these questions from the same source.

Also I have seen many past the exam with one test bank, so I am not sure if another test bank is required.

Any advice or thoughts would greatly be appreciated.

the best anyone can probably tell you is “it depends”

I use CPAexcel and WTB. so far I have passed FAR and AUD easily, and I'm pretty sure I passed REG (1 more week to find out). having ~1500 questions probably couldn't hurt…but at the same time, I don't know where I'd find the time to do them. and I already feel very prepared going into the exam, so I really think I'd be kind of wasting time and burning myself out trying to get through a ton of extra MCQs I don't really need.

other people might not feel comfortable after going through one test bank and their review course and feel like they're memorizing questions so they get a second test bank. some people don't even use a supplemental test bank and just rely on their review course.

so, it depends. another test bank isn't necessary, unless you think it's necessary. maybe you failed a section in the past and feel like you need extra help. maybe you're just really bad at tax. maybe you find yourself memorizing AUD questions and really want more. maybe you just really don't want to fail and are willing to dedicate all of your time studying as much as you possibly can. it all depends on what you need.

Like dragnet says – it depends how you feel about it.

Since you've gone through Wiley 3 times, I assume that you're starting to memorize the questions. So, are you getting them correct because you know the information or correct because you already know the question.

I have used 2 test banks for each exam and very glad that I did.

I really need the variety of questions when studying.

Yes, a few of the questions overlap, but not enough to feel like you're not getting your money's worth.

If you feel comfortable with your knowledge of the material, then go ahead and test without a second set of questions.

Although I haven't used Ninja MCQ, I see that it has great reviews and a good price, so if you want to practice with more questions, I say that's probably the best choice for a low cost supplement to Wiley.

I wouldn't say I have memorized them as I don't score 100%. What I do is read the question and try to answer it before looking at the 4 selections. I am likely comfortable with the WTB because I know the material they are testing in their test bank. In addition I have done the questions in CPA Excel as well.

With my exam being this Friday, I will see how I fair with the one test bank approach and see if I need to change my approach going forward.

Thanks for the advice dragnets and tux

    Good luck, Foppa!

Yes, with your exam this close, I don't recommend adding a new test bank at this point.

Let us know how you do.

Essentially, we're having a $47 discussion…if it's worth that to drill down into certain topics and get a different look at the content as an exam hedge, then go for it.

i would buy it. esp the ninja mcq. it gives you fresh Qs and ninja tells you and tests you on topics you are weak. I think ninja will really really help you in the alst week of prep. for BEC and what i am going to do for REG is buy ninja MCQ when i am about 3-4weeks out and use that to target my weak areas….honestly cannot recommend it enough…esp at $47 imo

I'm taking CPAExcel, and I always supplement with NINJA MCQ the week before. I truly feel it has been key to me passing REG and AUD. (didn't use it for BEC and that's the only part I had to take twice; REG and AUD passed on 1st try).

    REG - ✔
    AUD - ✔
    FAR - 11/29/14

CPAExcel, Ninja MCQs, and a sh*t ton of coffee

All valid points…given that test is on Friday I will likely have to implement this approach for the next exam.

Cost is not the issue, but I am hesitant to add new material now and play with my confidence. Keep in mind I have also done the MCQ's in CPAExcel as well. I believe there is also a mental aspect to writing these exams and for that reason not sure if introducing a new a test bank 3 days before would be a wise idea.

    Thanks for all the help

If the MCQs hurt your confidence, then it's because you're weak on the material.

If that's the case, then better to face the music before exam day.
