I have been working in corporate accounting for a relatively small company for a little over 2 years now. I have done well in my time here and have received compliments from multiple supervisors/managers over the course of my employment, and personally have not had many complaints about my job overall. It is pretty much a done deal that once my girlfriend is finished with school we will be moving and I will be looking for a new job, which will be in about one year max.
My dilemma however, is that one of our accounting supervisors is leaving in a month, and management has stated that they wish to fill the position with one of our current staff accountants (me included). Even though I am the youngest of the accountants, I have been with the company the longest and will be the only CPA (assuming I pass these last two).
So my question is, do I throw my name into consideration even though I know I will be leaving within a year? I personally feel like it would be unfair to the company and the other accountants if they did choose me (I am by no means guaranteed to get it) only for me to leave not long after. At the same time I feel like it would definitely be a positive for my resume.
Just wanted to get some other opinions on the matter. Thanks in advance!
