Hello. I just found out today that I did not get an internal position that I applied for. I live in the South Bend, Indiana area and I am very interested in finding a position in public accounting. I have no public accounting experience. The largest public accounting firms in the area are Crowe and McGladrey. Any ideas on how to reach out to these firms since I am not a University candidate? I have 10 years of experience, but I realize I would have to start out at the bottom in public and don’t mind, but just don’t know how to make contact. I would really appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

First, go to their websites and see if they have any openings. Remember, its slow time for public acctg , specially summer, things will pick up in Nov/ Dec so that a firm is properly staffed for busy season.

I was hired during busy season, so you never know, when someone calls in a day and you can get lucky.

Second, network with your friends/ families/ co-workers and see if anyone of their friends and / or cousins are working in public acctg. networking is key.

Lastly, go up to their office , meet with the receptionist and drop your resume, sometimes it might work!!!

    Goodluck.

@mena je twa, Crowe does have an opening for a Federal Tax Senior Staff position. I have about 5 years of experience in non-profit tax. The position wants experience in corporate tax, individual tax, partnership tax, etc. Do you think it would be too big of a stretch? McGladrey only has one position open and it is for Senior Assurance.
