Hi there,
Anyone giving REG in april/may. I started today with regulation. Need study buddy if any one interested let me know. To movitate/share doubts/query
A lot of the people in my Becker class did REG as their first section (I started with AUD). Welcome to the madness and good luck with your prep. This forum is awesome for motivation and help.
Mamta,
taking Reg on April 1st - thought the date was appropriate. LOL Anyway, I would like a study partner. Starting to work on Chapter 1 today. Just took FAR past Fri and took the weekend off. I have Becker material...... Looking forwad hearing from you.
If you are self-studying with the Becker materials I would suggest starting with the ethics/law stuff. After you are done with the law/ethics then go back and do the tax stuff. This will keep the tax stuff better in your mind for the exam.
Dale, thanks for the advise....both here and when it comes to me looking at my FAR score ;-)
I am starting REG from today with 2009 materials from Becker .It is safe to use 2009 materials ? Please suggest !!
I'm addicted to the forums almost. This exam is a freaking obsession at this point for me.
As to the 2009 REG materials I would say you are almost perfectly fine. I used the 2009 materials to go through stuff in December and then used the 2010 materials in the live class in January. The lecture videos are the exact same. Same jokes, same clothing, same word stumbling. If you pay attention in the videos you will find they don't use many specific dollar amounts. Instead they say "an indexed" or "a yearly inflated" number when the video highlights the numbers.
Just a few things to note however:
1. The casualty loss amount changed in 2010 from $100 per loss to $500. It has been $100 for ages (even back when I was in college a decade and some change ago) but is now different (although some of their homework questions incorrectly use the $100 amount still).
2. Know the specific dollar amounts for the section 179 depreciation and its phase outs.
All other information you should be good on. Any questions that are given were either obviously above or obviously below any phase out considerations and/or the specific amounts were given.
Thank you so much Dale . I just started on the forum and its so helpful .Lots of information ,and that's what I need for now.Cant wait for the AUD results !!
I am getting ready to sign up to take the REG test begining April. I like the idea of signing up to take on April 1 it does seem appropriate. I am on Chapter 3 I started off with a strong study plan two hours a day and have since fallen off that course. So I think a study partner to help stay on track would be a great idea.
If your are interested send me a private message and I will send you my e-mail it might be better to communicate through e-mail since I am only on here maybe once a week.
I am waiting for the Aud results ,if I get through I will sign up for REG to test on first week of April .I would like a study partner too !!
I take Regulation April 6 here in Iowa. I started reading the book (Becker) last week. I started with chapter 7, then 6, then 5. Now back to 1 - 4. Once I am done reading the book once, I will start flashcards everyday during my lunch hour. I have Becker lectures and course disk to self-study after getting the book done once.
Hoping my Audit score comes back this week >75, then Reg will be my last section.
Good luck everyone.
I am too preparing for regulation !! will appear in May & have to clear it in 1 shot no matter what !! I have already started with chap 1..I sometimes get scared if i will be able to do it or not, since I dont have any accounting experience or tax exp in US..Can anyone suggest me a study plan too..I at home all the time ..All i want to do is stay foccused & clear it in one attempt..actually i cleared BEC in the 2nd attempt & thats y i am doubting myself & a lil bit scared.

BEC-72,76 Reg- may
riddhi.palod, if I have learned one thing from this process, it is you must believe that you can pass. And you can!!! If you qualify to sit, you have the educational ability to pass this, even though it seems like a monster to us when we are studying it. If we will admit it, we all get scared. Try to use that fear to motivate you instead of letting it defeat you. I am sitting for REG in the April/May window and I need to pass it or I will lose AUD. I am putting that out of my mind because, for me, that would only put pressure on me and not motivate me. There are a lot of really great people on this forum that I see helping others when they have questions, so just ask. The worst that could happen is you might not get an answer. Keep studying and keep reading the posts. You can do it!
Hey Mamta,
Loved your idea of study buddy....i may be taking REG in April/May....depends on my FAR score....it hasnt gone very good and have less hope....i think i'll have to do FAR again...but i like your idea....would like to join you if get to do REG (so..so wish i pass FAR!!) I guess i'll be using Yeager/Wiley combo...how about you?
Looks like Regulation will be my last exam (got my passing audit score tonight). I'm through the Becker book once; going to start the lectures this week.
REG is my second section and it seems to make much more sense than FAR did (which I took 2/12). I guess I am more the logical person than the person memorizing formulas and doing the math based on it. Working on Chapter 2 with Becker Homestudy and should be done with all Chapters and starting Final review with Daylight Saving Time (3/14).
Anyone else using Becker? Have you noticed that their AICPA questions (you can get on their website) only have the answers and not the explanations with Becker usually adds eventhough it says they added them........
Who else is taking REG on April Fools Day???
me giving on april fools day !! havent started anything yet !! gave AUD yesterday !! I am in bad shape as i have 2008 material and my BEC credit is going to expire in april ...any suggestions ??? planning to buy wiley but so use to of becker.
sonu, I know Wiley is cheap, but I don't like it at all. I am using 2008 Becker to study, but have also updated the book and flashcards for the 2010 materials.
For REG the big thing to remember is the casualty loss change in 2009. The deduct off the top is now $500 instead of $100. Outside of regular indexed amounts nothing changed from their 2009 to 2010 materials.
If you are talking about AUD download the updates off the Becker site. There were a couple of major revisions to the 2009 materials when I was in the classes in Oct/Nov last year and some of those materials were in questions.
me too, i am siting REG late April, i have just got my FAR score and i passed.
i am under high presure now, my BEC will expire on 5/25 and REG is my last part. i know it is may falt and I had to take it at least last window with FAR, it is late to think about it but that is where am I now.
i am using Becker 2009 materials and it expires on 3/14 i am working with Becker trying to get an extension upto the end of april to sit for REG.
here is my plan and I would like to get every ones input on this plan please:
using becker materials for studying, getting Wiely book and using it to understand any areas that i feel not comfortable with, and studying for 3 hours every day except friday and 6-8 hours on weekends until the eaxm date.
i also my Join Club 75 and get Jeff's notes for REG someone sayed it is really good.
any thoughts ?
I am taking REG on April 24th. I am using Becker 2009. Also I have Wiley 13.0 and Lambers. I'm trying to do as many MCQs as possible. I typically spend one week per chapter. Watch the lecture and highlight the book on Saturday. Do bulk of MCQs on Sunday and then do the rest/redo ones not passed throughout the week and take the progress test on Friday.
It worked for AUD (passed) but has not worked for BEC (3 times struck out) so I'm getting Yaeger for BEC.
Right now I'm rereading the tax areas in between the Law section as my progress test on ch 5 was a 100. I'm not comfortable with the AMT or the corporate areas. Any pointers.
yes, me, but just study yourself, studying with others for this exam does not work, just read, read read, the questions explain themselves. no study budy, sorry.
I just received my Yaeger homestudy for BEC and am considering ordering the REG Cram but I'm kind of tired of spending $$$ on the test and review material. I have Becker 2009 for REG and Lambers so I can do lots of questions. Is the Cram worth getting at this point? I'm testing on Apr 24th.
I have a question from becker which is
During 2001, Adler had the following cash receipts:
Wages $18,000
Interest Income from investments in municipal bonds 400
Unemployment compensation 1,500
What is the total amount that must be included in gross income on Adler's 2001 income tax return?
As per updates the amount of exemption now is $2400 !! so how we should answer for this question....!!
question # 2 is if in exam do we have to consider which year the rule was applied and answer accordingly !!
sorry if i sound little confuse !! I just started 1st chap !!
pls answer...
sonu: The question says his 2001 taxes, so you'd use pre 2009 which allows up to 2400 so the only amount excluded would be the municipal interest. So the answer should be 19500.
