Anybody ever felt like this?

    Hi All!

I have now taken all four of the exams, passed two, failed two. However, my latest exam score felt extremely odd. Here’s why:

I took audit August 12. I covered each bit of Becker audit material twice – something I was not quite able to do on the other sections given the fast pass timeframe. I left the exam 100% confident that I had received TWO hard testlets – something I had never done.

On reg I received 74, on FAR I received 80, and on BEC I received 82….all with one hard testlet.

However, Audit sims felt the hardest. I felt that I performed poorly on them, but I was hoping that my strong multiple choice showing would give me a shot. I felt that if I failed, I would be very very close. I walked out of audit feeling the most confident I had ever felt after taking a CPA exam.

I received a score of 60 on audit and literally can’t believe it. Has anybody ever received two hard testlets and still not be anywhere near passing?

    Thanks for your time.

I would say that the fact that the 2 testlets felt so hard may be an indication that you were unprepared for the tests, rather than that they were hard testlets. I'm not saying that you didn't prepare enough, because you clearly put a lot of time into preparing for AUD! But rather, I'm saying that you may not have been well enough prepared.

AUD is an odd test. It is based SO much on understanding, and if you understand it well, the whole thing seems easy. I didn't have any testlets that seemed hard, and I got a 91. Best score of my exam-experience-to-date, but none of the testlets seemed hard…best I can come up with is that they didn't seem hard because I understood the material well enough to do well without them seeming hard.

Becker's AUD prep, from everything I've gathered, is very focused on memorizing facts. And…AUD is all about understanding concepts. So, for a re-take, I'd urge you to try to ignore all the “memorize this huge acronym” stuff, and instead focus on understanding why these things are important to know, and understanding the concepts behind them well enough to be able to answer the MCQs without the memorization. If you can answer without the mnemonics, then the mnemonics can be a useful tool; if you are relying on them, though, they become a crutch which is useless on exam day.

So, I'm sorry to hear your score. 🙁 That sucks, really bad, especially when you feel SO confident on the exam! But, on the brighter side, I think you'll be able to pass it on a re-take without even having to put as much work into it, but instead with a new way of looking at the learning. And…with a 50% pass rate, you're above average still!

    Hi Count11

I had a similar experience in a sense that Audit was the only exam I felt pretty confident in. However, my score told me a different story. It was so strange because I really felt like I passed but didn't even come close! I've read several different posts about making sure you read the f#*$@!^ question. I will remember that for the next match!

Wishing you positive results for round 2!!!

Aud is all about sims. I received comparable on multiple choice and weaker on sims for both my 2nd and 3rd attempts and scored a 61 both times.

    CPA (2017)

    REG:  75

    BEC:  76

    FAR:  77

    AUD: 78

    CMA (2019)

    P1: 380

    P2: 360

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)
