Anyone else nervous about sitting for REG in 2013 with 2012 Study Material?

I’m looking for some words of encouragement that I should be okay with my 2012 study material with my REG exam being in February of 2013. I did get the updated NINJA Notes and NINJA Audio for 2013 and I also will be using the Wiley Test Bank which I assume is kept up to date.

I just feel like REG, more than any other exam, is very sensitive to changes from one year to the next. There are multiple times in my review material where the instructor says “for 2011, the rule is…”. Seems like it’s counterproductive to memorize rules that might not be relevant… perhaps it could even hurt me to get the outdated rules memorized which might confuse me come exam time.

Anyone else feeling the same concerns? Hopefully someone can comment and let me know I shouldn’t be all that concerned. I guess I’m in the same boat as most people sitting in the first testing window of 2013 so I shouldn’t necessarily be at a huge disadvantage.

    FAR - 2012 - PASSED (YAEGER)
    AUD - 2012 - PASSED (YAEGER + NINJA NOTES)
    BEC - 2012 - PASSED (YAEGER + NINJA NOTES)
    REG - 2013 - PASSED (YAEGER + NINJA NOTES + NINJA AUDIO)

    ETHICS - 2013 - PASSED

DONE!!! Thank you A71 for all the support! Hiya!!!

I have the same concern. I don't even know if I should keep on studying with my 2012 materials for ANY of the other 3 exams that I will be taking THIS year…

I personally wouldn't even worry studying 2011-12 materials for taking exams in 2013. Rules and concepts change very slowly. My guess is that they will minimize their effort on creating and pre-testing questions that need to be replaced by newer questions that needs to go through a whole new round of create and pre-test processes every year or so. I see no point to worry, unless you believe 1.) CPA courses rewrite the whole book and present the concepts in a totally different way every year, or 2.) the testing structure is changing.

The reason why 2012 materials are ok is because mostly what changes are the actual amounts from year to year. The CPA does not tend to test on exact numbers because they would have to release an entirely new test bank each year. That would be too expensive and time consuming for them to do. The concepts stay the same for the most part. Even Jeff has gone on the record saying theres really only one change you need to know for REG:

Becker told me no 2013 Fiscal Cliff changes until 7/1/2013 will be seen on the exam.

    BEC - 85
    FAR - 72, 80
    REG - 79
    AUD - 81

Used only Becker. Let the book burning begin!

Tax law changes are testable 6 mo. after they are passed. I'm still not sure if anything has been signed.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 80
    FAR - 76
    REG - 92
