I just took BEC and I feel pretty good about the MC. However, I was not comfortable/familiar with my writing topics and basically had to make up facts as I went along. Has anyone passed the exam while performing poorly on the writing section?

Oh, yes! I started the writing section with only 35 minutes left. Due to time constraints, I used identical introductory and concluding paragraphs for all 3, I just substituted key words in (what was given for the specific topic from the question). For the body paragraphs, I made sure I had 3 sentences each and made sure to include key words that were generally relevant to the topic, or so I thought. I had 2 that I was pretty clueless about. Also, made sure that grammar and punctuation were correct. I escaped with a 77. If you feel confident in the mcqs, I am sure you will be fine. Good luck!

Your WC is graded by a computer. It will not care if you had the same intro/conclusions as long as you switched out those topic keywords I would think.

Yep. I used the keywords. I didn't worry about accuracy/content.

Yes. I'd heard that the WC were graded based on writing ability, not technical accuracy, so didn't even worry too much about trying to be prepared for their topics, then the actual exam said they were graded on technical accuracy and I worried, but passed without a problem. As long as your answers seemed reasonable, I think you'll be OK.

My pass was sort of a half bs. The score before

that (70) was a complete bs. For my 71 I knew the stuff pretty well.

    AUD-50,62,68 (retake july)
    REG-55
    FAR-15(didnt study)

I am wondering the same thing. I just took BEC August 30th, and one of the essay questions, I just went completely blank on and just wrote. I felt good about the MC except for a few stupid mistakes that I made and realized it later of course. The wait to know how I did is a killer!

I BS'd my way through one WC and ultimately answered the question “I don't have a clue.” It was grammatically correct, and I don't have any way of knowing if it was graded or not, but I got an 85.

    Kricket – that's funny –

you literally wrote “I don't have a clue”????

I tested for BEC yesterday (8/31) and I didn't know the answer to any of the writing section. I made something up for all 3, and just hoped I was in the ballpark.

I want to believe my writing was decent, but who knows what they're looking for.

Yes, I basically repeated the question as the intro to each of my writings, so I know that key words were in there.

Besides that, I have no idea what to expect for grading???

    my fingers are crossed

@dpadgett I feel the same way. I felt pretty good about the MC. I'm just hoping I did enough!

@Kricket That's awesome! I definitely made sure my BS was grammatically correct!

@Tux I feel the same way as you! I literally made up answers for all three :(. Such a bummer because the last time I took it and got a 71, I actually got easier writing topics. I really hope I was able to boost my score on the MC. I also really hope I get my results next week and don't have to wait until the 18th. That would be torture…

    Good luck guys!

I BS'd at least 1 of the 3. I remember knowing nothing about the topic and just using the key words mentioned and going with it. My CPA Review course said they are grading your writing ability not your technical accuracy. So be on topic, be concise and be clear.

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.
