Just curious to know how many people thought they did bad in Sims, but still end up passing?

I feel like everyone has similar feeling about MCQs, most of time the 2nd testlet seems impossible, so hard to gauge how well we do in MCQs.

so I feel like it’s easier to tell if we did well or poorly in Sims.

In my Sim, I had two research, so one I’m guessing it’s pretest and I probably only got of them right.

rest of the Sims, two of them were weird, so I don’t think I did well in those two. the other ones I feel like I did okay.

so I kind of wanna know if I have chance of passing….so nervous….

FAR - 9/8/16 (Hopefully it's my last CPA exam, God bless me!)
    REG - 80
    BEC - 81
    AUD - 69, 81

I wrote this in a prior forum, but I'll share again…. I took the FAR exam last month and felt the exact way you feel. I left 1 hour for SIMS, left 2 SIMS completely blank and felt horrible about the others. To top it off, I felt awful about the MCQ's. I flagged at least 10 MCQ's in the first two packets and probably 14 in the 3rd testlet. I didn't even have a chance to go back and review any of my flagged questions in the 3rd testlet because the clock was quickly ticking. I thought there was not even a mathematical chance that I could have passed….. I got an 82.

Took FAR on 5/25 and I felt like the only SIM I got right 100% was the research question. I may have known 50% of the stuff for the 2/7 SIMS. I guessed on the remaining 4/7 SIMS. I didn't know the math for those so I just entered the J/E account and left the dollar amount blank.

Overall I would say I felt crushed by the SIMS but somehow scored a 75! THANK GOD

I recommend keep studying till you get your score back just incase you need to retake in July.

I think it is just a matter of perspective individually. You can feel either way (bad or good) and even thought your gut feeling will not lie to you most of the time, there could be happy surprises. If you think that you were prepared and worked hard, stay positive and keep going. Getting frustrated is sometimes the worst enemy for a CPA candidate.

I felt like the sims on my April FAR take were pretty rough, but I ended up with an 84. Overall I guess if you know enough of the material to at least pick up points where you can on a hard problem it's not too hard to pass. Or like me on REG today, put in “0”s and hope for at least 50%.

On a side note, anyone ever had the exact same MCQ in two different testlets with the same answer options and everything? I'm not complaining, I'll take the free points where I can get them ;).

    B - 88 (2/16)
    A - 84 (4/16)
    R - 73 (6/16), 82(7/16)
    F - 67 (1/16), 84(4/16)

    Ethics - 93

this is a great thread! i bookmarked this to read later after i walk out of my FAR test in July undoubtedly feeling like a piece of crap, second guessing myself, and regretting the answers i put down for the SIM's.

then i will read this thread and calm down and feel good and not think about it for 2 weeks until score release day.

I walked out of REG going “WTF” on the SIMS… I got the research one right but the others were seriously a crap shoot… walked out knowing that if I failed it would be be because of the SIMS…. passed with a 75- while the SIMS did me no favors I still managed to pass thanks to the MCQs… so yes it is def. possible to pass while doing bad on them… it may be an “ugly pass” but a pass is a pass. GOOD LUCK to you!!!

I thought I bombed the FAR sims. I couldn't find anything in the AL to help me and I did the mistake of not nailing down journal entries.

    FAR - 75 (2/25/16)
    AUD - 80 (4/8/16)
    REG - 80 (6/10/16)

I took AUD in February and had a similar experience. First off, I did not study as much as I should have. When it came to the exam, I felt decent about the multiple choice, but I spent way too much time on them. I only left 45 min for the SIMs which was a bad mistake. I am pretty sure I left 3 SIMs completely blank. I have always been a slow test taker, but this was horrible. I was sure I failed.

However, I got my score back today and I passed with an 86! I'm still not sure how it happened, but just know it is possible.

Took my AUD on 6/8. i only had one research one mines..there were two sims that were exactly the same, so one has to be a pretest.Flagged so many MC it wasn't even funny. We'll see June 21st.

Just passed REG and I felt like I bombed the SIMS. My score breakdown said I was weaker on them compared to other passing scores but I must have done well enough on the MCQ's to make up for it.

The times I have passed, I convinced myself it was mathematically impossible for me to pass because the SIMS were so bad. The times I've failed, I've thought to myself after the exam “those SIMS weren't too bad, I think I did pretty well.” I still do not know the rhyme or reason to this, but what I do know is that extremely difficult SIMS are a gift from the CPA gods – they are a very good thing. I think if you find it easy, so do many other people which means a lot of people are getting it right (i.e. less points given for correct answers due to IRT grading). On the flip side, if you find it difficult, so do most people – leaving more room for error.

Regardless of what we think or feel, the test is over and your score will be what it will be. I've lost sleep and spent countless hours worrying and beating myself up over these tests. Not worth it. Just focus, take the exam, receive your score, process, and take action on the next step. If you fail, its ok, most of us do at some point. My advice is just don't spend a ton of time looking behind you, even when your waiting for your score.

I bombed every single AUD SIM but passed. I actually got comparative score. For my final FAR, I thought the SIMs weren't too bad, but my score report said I didn't do well. So we never know.

I guessed on like 3-4 SIMS of AUD my first time around and I got a comparable. So while I didn't pass, it was technically possible.

    BEC - 78 (August 2015)
    FAR - 80 (November 2015)
AUD - 73, 67. (Ok I gotta confess I was even more lazy this time around)

I was sure I wrecked myself on the SIMS when I passed FAR.

My research question was vague and not where they ask you to look up a rule in the ASC like with other research problems. The other SIMS were less about the more common topics in FAR and more about the obscure ones. One problem it took me 15 minutes to understand what was being asked. I left the last one that had maybe 10-15 cells to input responses blank except for one cell I know I got right.

Later that week I read threads on this forum where people suggested just entering “0” in cells if you run out of time. It is said to have worked for a few people.

I ended up with an 83 leaving one SIM almost all blank and my diagnostic report said I was STRONGER in SIMS and average in MCQs.

When I was driving home I felt really bad about the test. I was 90% sure I scored in the 60s.
