I’m looking for some advice. I thought I had cleared the credit requirements by a mile since I had 45 undergrad acct/finance specifc credits and 7.5 at the graduate level (it was a 2 year program through UW Eau Claire, but only totalled 30 credits). Unfortunately, I received a letter today stating I needed 13.3 semester hours, which is a lot. Does anybody have any advice on how to proceed…and obviously quikly and cheaply are concerns. Thanks in advance.

ASk your state board which schools/university/ community college are acceptable and a list of courses that are acceptable and to be applied towards your 13.3 semester hours. Dont just take classes for the sake of taking them. Ask the state board first before you enroll….

Maybe it's because I'm a little hysterical at this point, but your comment seems a bit rude. I wouldn't take a class for the sake of taking it. I'm broke. I took my undergrad classes that fit my goal of having a bachelors degree with an emphasis in finance. I went on to get my MBA because I wanted it, and I took just about every class they had in the accounting elective. I'm not an idiot, and I didn't think I was unprepared. I also wouldn't blindly jump into something or “take a class for the sake of taking it”, that's why I'm looking for advice on this forum.

I don't think it was meant to be rude…. I just think what mena je twa (love the name btw) is saying is to see what will qualify, and find the cheapest way to get it done… That sucks to fall short like that unexpectedly, but I am sure some of what you need may be offered online or through a CC to keep costs low… Best of luck to you 🙂

Are you applying in the state of Wisconsin? You need the following:

    150 credit hours total.

24 credit hours of accounting NOT including Principles of Accounting 1 and 2, but including intermediate, advanced, auditing, managerial, cost, and tax courses.

24 credit hours of business courses with no more than 12 of those hours in the same general area of study (business law, finance, marketing, etc.)

    Regional accreditation.

I edited my post above to include the reqs. Also, note that iF you take courses at a community college, they have to be transferred into a four year school to count to sit for the CPA exam in WI.

If you have met those requirements, call the board….maybe they did not review your transcripts correctly.

Thank you for your post, but I do know what the requirements are/were. My mistake is that apparently some of my credits from undergrad were quarter credits instead of semester credits. Other undergrad classes had finance and accounting in the title, so they classified them as finance which does not qualify. Finally, although my MBA electives were classified as accounting, the board did not classify them that way. I am requesting the university write and email, as this may help my case (per the contact).

I really appreciate the note on technical college credits being transferred to a university, as I did not know that and was thinking about going down that route. I've read some suggestions about going through LSU's distance program…does anybody have any experience or insight on this?
