Applying for CPA Exam questions

    Hi everyone,

Taking my first step into the cpa exam but had a question on how long the NTS is for before it expires. My situation is that I have a strong foundation on FAR and AUD. My weakness will be on REG which I am going to put more effort into that section as changes have happened since graduating 3 semesters ago.

I recognized that when you initially register as a first time applicant as I am, I will have to pay the $145 app fee along with the per section fees that range from $171 to $197 (Hawaii jurisdiction). I am planning on taking FAR and AUD in April/May and BEC in July. REG is the issue though as I will only be able to take this section once I review the Wiley book which is dependent on how busy my job gets.

My question is if I initially sign up for all 4 sections with my initial app, will my NTS have an expiration of at least 9 months? I figure the upfront costs to pay for all 4 sections is worth the price as I will avoid paying for the re-examination registration fees. But this of course is dependent on how long the NTS expiration is. Thanks in advance

    FAR - 93
    AUD - 98
    REG - 92
    BEC - 92

    Depends on your state, actually.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 80
    FAR - 76
    REG - 92

Looks like Hawaii is 9 months – so yes, you would need to sit for all 4 parts in those 9 months or have to reapply for a new NTS

    Hawaii

Louisiana is 9 months as well

Word to the wise. Get your NTS one exam at a time! They give you a little discount for getting more than one, but it's not worth it.

I agree with Kricket. Personally I only pay for one NTS at a time. Max I would ever consider would be 2, but I did that my first time trying the exam in 2009 and it backfired pretty badly.

I recommend taking the section you feel is you will have the most trouble with first so that your 18 months will not start ticking until you pass that section. This way you will be least likely to lose credit.
