Applying to sit for exam… Do I have to decide on all sections now?

I am registering to sit for the exam and am wondering if I have to choose each part I want to sit for in this window now, or can I go back and add later? I know for sure I am going to sit for AUD and FAR first, so, can I register for these and then, if it is still within the six month window, go back and register for another section without paying another registration fee?

I live in Michigan, if that makes a difference.

    Thanks!

I think the states vary on this. In Florida you have to pay a fee for each NTS you apply for. So if you schedule all 4 tests on one NTS then you pay a lower fee than if you scheduled each test on separate NTS. Only apply for what you can realistically take in the 6 months though or you'll be rushing to get through them all before the NTS expires since you already paid for it.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

So, say I only register for the two right now…but then want to register for more in the same 6 month window. Do you think I will be able to register (and pay another NTS fee) for the new sections or will I be SOL until the 6 months is up?

You can register for more later I think. I usually got my next NTS before my prior one was up for the 6 months, but after I had already sat for the exam(s) on the prior NTS. I know you can't have two active NTS for the same test, but I'm not sure if you can sign up for 2 and then get a new NTS if you haven't sat for the prior exams yet.

Yes, you can apply for another NTS before a prior one expires. In August, I applied for the one with FAR, then in October before taking FAR I applied for the NTS for REG. I should have planned ahead better and saved a registration fee :-/

Texas is right. You can apply for another NTS whenever. I applied back in April for REG and BEC. Then applied in August for FAR and AUD before that NTS expired. It's probably better to be safe than sorry you applied for too many tests at once. Unfortunately it does cost an extra $120 (or so) for each NTS (at least here in NY).

    Good luck!!

    REG: 7/11/14 - 80
    BEC: 8/19/14 - 86
    FAR: 10/17/14 - 84
    AUD: 11/22/14 - 77

    4 up, 4 down!

I applied for REG and FAR at the same time and my dad went into the hospital expectantly and I had to push FAR back to the next quarter and then ran out of time for REG and had to rush my studies before my NTS expired. Just be careful when you schedule to be realistic about the timing. Things come up that you can't control and you don't want to rush through any of these tests or you risk a retake, which is more expensive than just applying for them separately.

I am from Minnesota and I contact the NASBA MN person all the time with questions. Although he often time tells me to read the candidate bulletin, lol, he will still give me the answer. Then he will tell me that I am responsible to know all the information in the bulletin, yeah, yeah just give me the information I need, lol. You can schedule the tests anytime in MN you don't have to wait the six months, just pay a filing fee for each NTS.
