My thought process with FAR was to focus on the “meat and potatoes”. In other words I didn't put too much time or effort in NFPs, Govt Acct, or IFRS. I ended up getting a 74 on FAR and learned my lesson! Now, as I'm restudying, I'm refreshing my memory on the meat and potatoes, and giving a LOT more effort to the other topics as well.

    FAR: 74, 83
    REG: 76

In terms of IFRS, I don't like how CPAexcel scatters the differences throughout lessons. There isn't a “one-stop shop” listing of all of the IFRS differences. I'm guessing that this might be too much detail for anyone to give, but are the IFRS questions pretty basic on the exam, or more involved?

What do they call an accounting person, who only managed a 75 on all four parts of the CPA exam....you got it, CPA!!!

    BEC (2/28/16) ----- 78

    Thats a hard one.

Off the top of my head, I can tell you that I touched on everything. I think as my studies progressed, I paid less attention to my strong topics (Equity Method, Consolidations, and conceptual framework), then paid more attention to governmental/non-profit.

Funny enough, my score report shows the opposite… that I was weak on financial statement accounts/conceptual framework, yet stronger in governmental. I guess I turned a weak area into a strength during that exam.

I don't think I've ever downright skipped anything, but there are some topics that I glanced over once and then never bothered to look at again. For FAR, it was some of the stuff in F4's appendix. Screw you, conventional retail method.

I pretty much skipped NFP––not because I wanted to, but because I ran out of time.

Let's just say that was a very bad idea…

    AUD: 88
    BEC: 79
    REG: 81
    FAR: 72 » 74 » 88

Study method: 100% watching videos, including solving problems covered therein; no books, paper, or pencils

Yeah, I really can't think of a single topic worse to skip than government/not for profit. They're huge exam topics, many (most?) people never took govt/NFP in school so it's ENTIRELY unfamiliar, AND they are really, really easy, basic questions for the most part (in my opinion, anyways). They're easy and basic but designed to trick people who don't know anything about governmental accounting into picking the “logical” answer, which corresponds to “normal” accounting but not to governmental. Skipping bonds is probably worse?

Anyways, I skipped partnerships, not because I thought it was difficult or anything, but just because CPAexcel didn't cover it. I don't know why they don't cover it. It's not on the AICPA CSO for FAR, but I'm sure I've seen people say they've had partnership questions even though it wasn't on the CSO. I tried to teach it to myself using an old textbook and just power through test bank questions but I gave up and dedicated myself to more…substantial topics I actually had a shot at.

There were two things I just waved the white flag on, and one of them showed up as a simulation that probably wouldn't have been that difficult if I had buckled down for THIRTY MINUTES to learn it. Pretty stupid.

    (Don't skip anything)
