So i took Reg exam last week Jan 8 and took the whole weekend off and just watched football and drank. About to get into BEC mode. Studying will basically be my fulltime job because i am not working right now and dont plan on it until i am done taking with BEC exam which i plan to take mid Feb. How many days off did you guys take before studying for your next part and is any one in the same boat as me with studying being your fulltime job?

Man, I wish studying was my FT job!

I took about 2 weeks off after I took AUD (I went out of the country and really wasn't able to study). I also took about 2 weeks off after I took FAR – because I was pretty sure I did not pass and wanted to get my score before I started studying something else.

I took 4-6 weeks between exams because I do work full time and I have a family. I used that month to wait for my score, make my plan for a retake or next exam and spend some much needed time with my husband and kids before I got back to study mode again. It worked for me because of my situation, but it took me the entire 18 months to finish the exam, which included 2 retakes. Since you are only studying with no job or family then I would treat it like a job and put in 40 hours per week then take a day or two off to regroup (if absolutely necessary), then get back to it. You don't get a week off of work every 5-6 weeks so you don't really need to take an entire week after each test.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

^ agree with mamabear. Treat it like your job. I've taken 2 weeks off- one week was a vacation and the other was just waiting for my score.

Same here. I treat it as my job. Got laid-off. So Wanted to use this time to prepare and pass couple exams. But am still looking out for temp opportunities. Want to be in small companies for now, and use the time I get after work towards my studies.

Ok thanks your feedback everyone. Yep my fulltime job will be studying to pass bec. I would like to stay unemployed until im done taking audit in april but its so hard just living off of unemployment so we shall see. Im lucky i dont have any kids because there is no way i could do this. With the assumption that i passed reg i need to have everything passed by aug 2015. The clock is ticking. If i were working right now, i doubt id be able to pass bec and audit by august based on my track record. Its taking me 3x to pass a part on average.

Seriously… make this your full time job regardless of the obstacles.

I can say I made a conscious decision to take advantage of the “opportunity” in front of me with no job or other obligations and ability to make an aggressive, overly concerted effort to pass all of the exams on the first try. So five months of hell for three letters and a better future… not a bad trade off and I don't have to take the exams multiple times. Kind of like making sure you get the undergraduate degree right after high school rather than later in life. You make more money and have more opportunities in the long run. I know this from personal experience as I did not obtain my BS until I was 29 and now the CPA at 43.

After being laid off in Jan 2014 everyone asked me why I did not have my CPA and now that I have it… everyone is asking me… “Why did you put yourself through that because you have so much experience?” I wanted to punch them right there. However, I am getting more serious and quality looks in the first few weeks of getting back out there.

    Good luck!!!

im an intern at a local firm so they usually give me off 2/3 weeks before the exam so i usually do nothing but review. it has worked for FAR and BEC. IDK with AUD though, i have been studying my butt off during the day (doing close to 300 questions) then reviewing the text a little, but i have been going out with friends at night a few times =/

If you are unsure of how you did in an exam, why just not keep studying while awaiting your score? Albeit on a lesser scale than the week before the exams. There's always that one section you are not sure about.

Why not spend that time just reviewing materials that gave you a hard time? This way you don't lose all the momentum you've built up.

At the very least, why not use the Ninja Flashcards on your tablet or phone to maintain familiarity. Better than biting fingernails. Keep busy!! Stay on the saddle!!

I'm not working and studying full time too. But I have a husband and a kid. I have been studying since June of last year, and in these 7 months, I have written 5 exams, FAR twice & cleared, AUD twice and awaiting result, BEC once and cleared. Now I am preparing for REG and want to write it by the end of this month. I havent taken much of a break, hardly one week here and there when I am extremely burnt off. I really cannot afford to not work anymore, but I am also determined to finish CPA before I start working. I am kind of in a self torture mode. But after REG, I am gonna take a month's vacation to my home country and will be back in March, and then starts the job hunt. My advice for you, take a break, but not too long a break because it will be too hard to get back in track.

    FAR : 71, 83
    AUD : 73,88
    BEC : 87
    REG : sweet 82 and DONE !!

I got laid off and at the time had only passed audit. I studied as my full-time job for Reg(3 weeks) and FAR(5 weeks) while taking 2 weeks off in between. I originally thought I did not want to apply for jobs until I had passed BEC, but I decided right before taking FAR that I was ready. I passed FAR and took and passed BEC while working at my new job.

I would say 2 weeks off in between tests is fine as long as you take it seriously the rest of the time. Also, you may be itching to get back to work before completing all parts.

    Audit(11/5/13) - 89
    Reg(5/16/14) - 86
    FAR(7/18/14) - 82
    BEC(11/14) - 85

I usually take 4 days off after an exam. I just need some time to myself to do nothing. I'm also grateful I am only working part time because I don't know how everyone else does it with a full time job! I give props to everyone who passes the exam while working full time! It is just too crazy I would not be able to do it. But I do treat studying as my full-time job and usually study between 35-40 hours per week 5-6 days a week. Thank god I am close to finishing and looking for a job is next on my agenda.

    THANKS TO GOD

    FAR - 76
    AUD- 88
    REG - 76
    BEC- 74, 80
