AUD / BEC frustration

On Feb 4 I received the third 72 in a row for Audit. I’ve given myself roughly 30 days to prepare for the section. I’ve only worked part time jobs since finishing college so I have the most time in the day to study and I’m using the most recent Wiley text, Ninja MCQ, & Ninja audio (great for driving to work and gym time).

In the past I’d score low 70’s on the practice MCQ so I guess that should have been an indicator. I’m trying to read the text to learn for comprehension more this time around and the audio lectures are almost second nature. With REG & FAR passed and one of the AUD failures resulting in expiration of my previously passed BEC I just want to get this over with already.

I retook BEC after 1.5 years of not touching the material and scored a 73… I don’t want to repeat the string of near misses I have with AUD; not sure what I can do to finally pass these last 2 parts. Just redo MCQ until i’m consistently acing practice sessions I guess.

    Finally Done!
    AUD: 64(9/'12), 67(5/'13), 67(9/'13), 59(11/'14), 72(9/'15), 72(11/'15), 72(2/'16), 83(5/'16)
    REG: 65(11/'12), 62(8/'13), 68(11/'13), 61(9/'14), 64(2/'15), 68(5/'15), 66(8/'15), 75(11/'15)
    FAR: 57(5/'13), 68(11/'13), 67(5/'14), 71(8/'14), 74(12/'14), 68(3/'15), 77(6/'15)
    BEC: 69(6/'13), 72(8/'13), 75(5/'14), 73(2/'16), 79(5/'16)

First off I am just starting to take tests again after failing a couple a few years ago. You are my hero for posting all of those battle scars in your signature. It's great to see other people going through the same thing. Props to you for showing it.

If you've been working on this a while, I would suggest looking for other ways to study. Switch up your study habits to keep things interesting and give your brain a new way to look at it. If you have plateaued out on your MCQ scores, there is probably something conceptual you haven't mastered. You should be able to tell if you are missing them due to tricky wording. It's all about what stage of the audit you are in for a lot of the questions you are asked. Most of the answer choices they give you don't even make sense because they are in the wrong phase of the audit or refer to different standards than your questions are asking about.

You are SO close and you have put too much effort into the exam to have doubts now. You will do it, just buckle down two more times and you're done. Don't lose focus now!

If I were you, I would consider the 73 in BEC as a success. You should be able to spend a couple weeks refreshing and pass that without a problem. Then you will just have AUD. Hopefully the idea of having only one exam to go will be enough to push you to the finish line. You can do it. Best of luck.

    REG - 81
    BEC - 83
    AUD - 86
    FAR - 78 (Done!)

i will share what worked for me with audit. i used ninja book and mcq and supplemented with the actual standards. i printed the home pages of the review, attest and audit standards. i read each description on that page and i kept them for reference. the book aligns perfectly with the mcq's. so i read a section then did the mcqs. when the answers pop up in ninja they reference a standard so i would find it in the printed list. why? to help me for the sims – this allowed me to know what standards exist for different scenarios and phases of the engagements and how to find them quickly.
i progressed through each section of the book and completed all new mcq's for that section then did the missed last time. the reason this progression is important is because these engagements occur in phases, especially audit, and you have to know where you are in the process to know what has to be done. for things i couldn't grasp or just didn't make sense i read the actual standard. everything on AUD is based on the standards. you have to read a few to know the format, too. you have to know how they are organized and the difference between the numbered sections and the A sections in each for the sims. the only issuer standard i reviewed was PCAOB 5.
once i hot review phase in ninja i kept pounding my weak areas which were the assertions. i hit them till the light stayed on. it took me a little over 6 weeks. the exam was difficult and i was not expecting the score i received. would have been thrilled with a 75 but i did much better than that.
i hope this helps. good luck

    AUD - 93
    BEC - 82

If you want things to change you have to do something different.

    AUD 10/30/15 93
    BEC 2/27/16 82
    REG 5/23/16 88!
