If anyone could please share your study plan/ material for AUD since I have not been able to clear for the second time now with a 73 and will try to take again in Nov '10.Scored a 69 in May. I would be taking BEC in Oct, since the NTS for that would expire in Nov.
It just puzzles me as to how it could be as difficult so as not to be able to get thru the second time. I am thinking of buying Jeff's notes and practice MCQ
thanks
Anushka730: what material r u using currently ?? i would say Becker + Gliem question book is the best combination. Jeff's material may also work out.
Yaeger for me, passed the first time - watched the lectures and did 75% of the required MCQ's, and read through the book on the sections I did not feel comfortable with... Studied for 3ish weeks for about 45 hrs total (22 for videos, 13 MCQ's, and 10 for review of notes/book).
Oh I have done some work in auditing also, so had some experience... public accounting for 1 year just after college. graduated May 2009.
Thanks hopeforthebest & Trevor
I have used Yaegar + Gleim Addnl MCQ cd (which I did not spend as much time doing it). I would wait for the performance report to see which areas I am weak in and work towards that. I do seem to understand the material but maybe not as good enough.
Has anyone ever received a sim regarding audit sampling? I know in my audit class we were required to do in depth PPS sampling and used more complex formulas for variable and attribute sampling. I'm wondering if there is a likelihood I need to know more than the 2 formulas Becker provides regarding PPS sampling- sampling interval formula, and sample size formula.
I'm studying with Becker to take audit on Tuesday. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any advice on which chapters I should focus most on in my final review? I've heard internal control and evidence are heavily tested... soooo chapters 3 and 4? Any advice would be appreciated!!
@koliver - I used Becker, definitely focus on internal control and evidence, which were ch 3 &4. Also if you have the money and still struggle with those points, like I did, Jeff's notes were a good deal. I bought them and read them through a couple times before the exam and used that as a final review the day of my exam in my car at the testing site. Best of luck!!
Thanks Michelle.... Yeah, I'm contemplating purchasing Jeff's notes but I am going to wait and see how confident I feel after taking the practice exams. Appreciate the advice!
Thanks for the advice guys. I am using Bisk & will sit for Auditing 8/31. I have not completed the entire book. I am guessing that the last three chapters of the book...Other Auditing Standards, Other Types of Reports & Other Professional Standards....will not be heavily tested. I may be taking a gamble. But, I have a hunch that I.C., Audit Evidence, Audit Programs, Reports & just general principals & theories are way more important.
Does anyone agree that I am on track with this mind set?
I really need to pass this part. I have never set for it before.
REG 84,
BEC 71, 75
AUD 8/31/10
FAR 11/10
I would just do a once over of the last bit of section 5 if that's all you have left, but you're correct that IC and evidence should be very well understood.
Potatogun: Well, it looks like you would know! Wow. A 91 is impressive. Congratulations!
Thanks for the insight.
Jeff,
Does 20 hours per week includes video? Or is this just study time minus video. I have some audit experience (not sure if this matters or not) but I am contemplating whether to take AUD or FAR by Nov. Leaning towards to AUD due to time. What's your in put on taking AUD vs FAR? I am using Becker. Thanks.
@koliver- It would save you A LOT of money to just sign up for club75 for a month. You get to download all the notes as part of the membership and a membership is $20/month.
Yeah, I signed up for the trial membership... just need to do the upgrade if I want the notes (but yes, 20 dollars is much cheaper than teh 40 or 50 they are priced!!)
Has anyone ever felt in confident with their exam and then passed? I took it today, and while i know I aced some of the questions, i'm unsure about others:(
abc123: I swore I failed Reg and got a 92. I ran out of time and couldn't finish the simulations. I did however go right to the communications on each sim. I got an 82 on FAR and also swore I failed. I was telling everyone %$# this exam, I'm done with it. I think it's really hard to judge. I used Yaeger so I did get a good feel for the questions. I only studied about half the recommended time, but the materials are really good. Hang in there. I have Audit tomorrow, so I'm sure I'll feel just like you do now.
@wscomp... thank you! that is exactly what I needed to hear:) Goood luck:) :):)
I just took AUD and felt really good about the MCQ. I think I potentially could have missed 8 max for all 90 MCQ questions. I studied using strictly Becker passmaster, sims and final exam as well as the free CPA questions web site. No book or lectures. I didn't feel too confident on the sims however. If I got 70% of the sims correct and 89% on MCQ, do you think this is enough to pass???
Yes, that would be enough to pass assuming if you're reading your performance correctly.
haha, okay maybe I got 50% of the sims/writing/research just to be conservative. Still enough? I hope and pray.
BTW, don't just memorize the ratios. Understanding what the ratios are used for. That's equally if not more important. ;)
I mean we can try and guess however much we can and you can calculate it if you weighted the questions equally as a raw %.
.7(MC) + .2(sim) +.1(WC) = whatever we think would be the passing score? AUD scores for the passing score were higher than FAR passing scores on my score reports by about 10points in the various areas.
Thanks, potatogun. I'm being a freak and calculating every possible scenario. I just realized on one of the sims I have mistaken net worth for net income and answered about 7 questions wrong on the impact of various entries.
@crammer, yes you should be fine! When i took FAR last month I BOMBED my sims... and I knew i did great on teh multiple choice... I seriously left 90% of the sims blank, and then filled out the communication the best I could. Regardless, I ended up with over an 80 and passed:)
As for the ratios you guys are talking about, someone told me not to worry about ratios because if you get them you can look them up in the research section-lie. I had a whole sim in audit where I had to choose the explanation for like 10 ratios..and I tried looking them up in the research but they were no where to be found.
Sometimes they put formulas in the "resource" tab. Maybe that is what they meant.
CPAWannaBe
Hey how did it go?
I just took aud on the 31st and felt like it was really easy, too easy. And that makes me worry. Anyone else feel the same way? I ended up with a lot of time left over (1hr 20 min) I"m so used to wanting to rush from having just taken Far in July that I didnt pace myself slowly enough. Eeck! Nervous. I hope I didnt make careless errors.
I thought I knew more than I didn't know. I don't want to jinx it because there seems to be an inverse relationship with how I feel when I leave Prometric and my scores. The second testlet was definitely harder. The simulations were like a cake walk compared to FAR. Maybe it was because I wasn't rushed. I used Becker and thought I was well-prepared; there were a few things that were not covered but not much. Doing the practice final exam the day before was a HUGE help.
I used the resource tab for part of my simulation. The written communications were not too bad but they were on topics that the research tab was no help. I had memorized several reports verbatim but of course got the obscure ones on my exam. Finger, toes, legs, hairs are all crossed until the score comes out.
