Since everyone's test is just around the corner, how about we all post some tricks or mnemonics that help us remember stuff?

Someone started a thread a month or two ago titled “AUD keywords. ” That has all mnemonics helpful for the exam that people came up with. I added some I knew as well.

@ Future – thanks for your mnemonics, those are quite helpful!

    FAR - 46, 79 (7/8/14)
    AUD - 56, 59, 2/23/15 3rd times a charm!
    BEC - 69, 74 Really??
REG - April, I hope. Fingers crossed!

@kappa – Good Luck! Let us know what the most heavily tested topics were.

    AUD - 56, 59, 2/23/15 3rd times a charm!

hey guys, im taking my test on the 7th. i was wondering how well u guys think i would need to know sampling…..I did the questions twice and got around 80% both times ( using becker) and I think i have a pretty good grasp on when to use each type and the theory behind it. I am just a bit caught offguard when it comes to figuring out which factors increase/decrease sample size ( eg. tolerable devation, tolerable mistatemnt, expected devation rate etc……) and when actually applying the concepts to examples using number. and figuring out precision and point estimates

    Thanks!

also, does anyone have a good refresher/summary on the basic journal entries that might pop up on the simulations for the exam

@dsch9319 – I think if you got around 80% you should be fine. Sampling is not a heavily tested topic on the exam. I may have had one question on my previous exam. With JEs I have heard to just know basic JEs and especially adjusting entries being that deals with auditing financial statements.

    FAR - 46, 79 (7/8/14)
    AUD - 56, 59, 2/23/15 3rd times a charm!
    BEC - 69, 74 Really??
REG - April, I hope. Fingers crossed!

Interim reviews are required for public companies by the SAS or PCAOB?

They're required by the SEC. The PCAOB would be the oversight board as far as auditing annual and interim financial statements but the PCAOB doesn't mandate that companies publish their interims. That would come from the SEC.

In regards to the sampling discussion above, just for what it's worth —

I took auditing three times. The first two times, I also found it wasn't a big topic. Third time – oh boy!!! It was a real shocker!! Just sayin!

And I don't get this, how are compilations attest services when you are required to be independent for them?

You don't have to be independent for a compilation. Maybe I am misunderstanding your question?
