I passed BEC and FAR then my plan was to knock AUD out then REG. I failed AUD with a 74 in October then took REG in January because my NTS was going to expire. Failed REG then failed AUD the end of February with a 71. I decided to watch the lectures to get a better understanding. Not sure if I should work on some SIMs before MCQs. Scored strong on the sims first round and then weak on the second round. Not sure what direction to take. The lectures are helpful but long! I want to retake in April. Any suggestions?

You are right on the cusp of passing. I would suggest that you prepare the same way you did last time you took it — maybe focusing more on some of the areas you were weaker in. When I did my AUD retake, I watched the lectures (Becker) if there were more than 50 questions on the topic. Otherwise I just jotted down some notes from skimming the section and did the MCQ.

Almost always from my phone... please excuse my typos!

Pound the MCQ's but focus on why the 3 incorrect answers are actually incorrect.

Maybe make your own notes. Write down the concepts on your own words-even draw pictures. I think knowing the concepts will help you with both the SIMS and the MCQ's. As I have stated before, I don't think Becker (if that's what you are using) has the best AUD lectures. Better to go over the textbook again. I did find Becker's “Final” review helpful in linking all the concepts together, and the instructor is “Mike,” who I think was better than Tim.

    AUD - 80
    BEC - 84
    FAR - 80
    REG - 88

I had the most difficult time with Audit (took it 5 times) so here're my 2 cents.
    1. Solve lots of problems (either Ninja, CPA Excel, Roger or Becker) and when you do them, think about what they're trying to teach you. I had Ninja and I solved all questions with 100% trending with 89% average (on all questions solved) when I passed Audit
    2. Read the book on your own (I had benefited getting few points by doing this b/c they sometimes test on topics each review does not cover). I read word for word of the Wiley book I had for internal control and audit evidence and it definitely helped me understand assertions and internal control.
    3. Make your own recording of your formulas/notes and listen to them on your way to work (this will save you ton of time and help you to memorize formulas and concepts) <- this was quite helpful for my REG study.
    4. I recorded the hours I put in each day so I can be honest with myself. 15-20 each week is decent if you're working full time. You can easily put in 3 hours on a weekday (1 hr before work, 1 hr during lunch and 1 hr after work)
    5. Use the discussion forum here to bounce off concepts, troubling questions, etc
    6. Refer/use the relevant authoritative literature (AU-C, PCAOB for AUD) as you're solving problems.

Just hang in there, you will get past this for sure.

If I can do it, you can do it too!
